Mom2emall, I feel your pain, we went through the same thing with my grandson,we had a lawyer, didn't make any difference. The courts get a lot of $$ this way. My brothers all got caught drinking under age at Grand Haven, or some other place when they were teens. (all mid50 to 70 ) so yes it was some time ago, then there parents were called and had to pick them up. now they not only try to brake the parents with fees but if the kid has been drinking it goes on his record for the rest of his life. can cause problems when they try to get certain jobs in the future. It doesn't matter that it was only once and they didn't hurt any one or any thing. In this economy you would think they would "have a Heart?" Hope you can find someone to fix your van. .... Hope tomorrow is a better day

Wow taprock and oy vay!

I know it seems harsh to be hard on youths, but if it saves them from jail, death, or even worse killing an innocent later, then it is worth it. I was almost killed once by a drunk driver,a young man who when not drinking was a very nice guy. let them learn this hard lesson, and hopefully it will keep them safe.

oh, I figger its something like hit em hard and keep him from screwing up worse. I abhor drunk drivers- my stepfather was killed by one, and the tragedy affects my mother to this day- and my mom and brothers had to struggle every single day as the boys were growing up. I looked at it like this- he was wrong to have alcohol, but right that he didnt have it open, and wasnt planning on drinking then driving. So wrong, but doing it right.

Chicken Grandma- I am SO sorry for your losses. I applaud you for doing the right thing- I honestly may not have been able to do the same.

My van...well, thank you all. The belt has been squealing for weeks. I went to the store- it was fine, pulled out of the store- fine. Didnt realize it quit squealing. Went to turn onto the main road by my house- wouldnt turn.
So, thats what it was doing. There are three or four main pulleys under there. One spins freely when the motor was running. The others werent moving. I didnt touch them to see which one wouldnt move- or if they all moved. I was skeeeered to do so. My husband has gone to borrow his moms truck for tomorrow so that I can use his, until he can fix mine. lol. Its almost funny how when it rains, it pours around here. There are plenty with much less and much bigger problems- so I am not complaining..just was having a little whine earlier.

one more thing- having broodies and babies outside the bathroom window has its down falls. Baby chicks peep ALOT. Makes me worried- so I dash in there to look, and Mama Hen is just showing them where the food is, or scratching the ground...false alarm. Then I notice Broody 2 is off her eggs...stress/fret/wonder if I should plug in the incubator...worry worry...gotta hurry because its cold out, and the eggs only have a few more days to go..
By the time I decide that I will have to go grab the eggs and get them in here until the incubator is ready, I look out, and she is back on her nest..*whew*

Mom2 -

I did not feel like I had a choice. I would be trying antibiotic after antibiotic and the long term prognosis is poor. Meanwhile my chickens may have infected other birds/chickens.
I could not see anything but suffering ahead for them and me also.

Oh, my heart just melted. What a beautiful Dobe. I was the president of a Doberman Rescue group for 5 years until I had to move due to work relocation. We placed so many beautiful Dobes and I still hear from people who adopted from us. At one time I had 12 Dobermans in my house. Loved every single one of them.

Chickmate, when you talk your husband into a dobe, let me know and I will set you up with a nice chicken-loving doberman:) I volunteer with a local doberman rescue here in Michigan. I can't think of a good reason to ever have another breed.

I am so very sorry for you, for what you had to do.

I know that you had loved them, as I did with mine before I had to put my own birds down.

So......you DO remember that you offered to incubate, hatch out and deliver 20 chicks to me in the Spring?

My grandpa had dobermans when I grew up. I LOVED those dogs. I used to ride on them! lol

Well, got another egg today, STILL not in a nesting box.
