I have a question and really hope someone can explain.

In the corner of this page, there is a running ad- usually for Metzers, perhaps always Metzers, I am not sure. But one frame is advertising "Crop bras"..now, I understand saddles- for protection against spurs...but do you believe that Crop bras are something that is needed? And if you do, could you please explain to me 'why'?

You should put this one on the emergency/diseases section of the forum, if you haven't already. Sounds really serious. You gotta isolate right away if you haven't already. You said he was show quality; did you show him without having him vaccinated, or recently vaccinate? I have read of instances where vaccinated birds have been "carriers" of the illness, especially in the few days/ week that it was done, while the bird was processing the vaccine. If you vaccinated, he might have been unable to process the vaccine. At any rate, this is definitly serious and if you have the money i'd go to the vet to at least see what you're dealing with, as your other birds have been exposed. Not trying to be gloom and doom, but there have already been so many losses recently on this thread.... Hate to see people losing birds.

I have no idea. Did he fight something/get stepped on/ where did you find him? Could he have injured his back, causing paralysis? Good luck- I hope someone can help.

What beautiful birds. Thanks for sharing. Love the Marans.

Thanks! I have 3 Marans boys in the coop and I think I'll leave them there untill Spring. Then I have to get rid of them for my neighbors sanity. I was hoping for girls but I really love the roos.

Mom, i had a dr recommend taking zinc lozenges when i was trying to get over something nasty (I think i was on the tail end of strep throat). They are different then the vitamins that you swallow in that you put them under your tongue and let them dissolve. The zinc kills bacteria in the throat, and putting it under your tongue lets it get straight into your bloodstream and it will get into your lungs and start working pretty quick. word of warning though EAT FIRST if you don't you'll be sick. also don't take more that 3-4 a day. they're not cough drops; i o'd on them one time. like drinking the whole bottle of nightime cough meds.
This won't ease your symptoms, but if you hurry and get it in you before it gets worse it'll cut it short! Best dr i ever had. (I haven't had insurance a whole lot, so i kinda had to learn to fend for myself )
Hope you feel better soon, in time for the holiday!!!

If you are interested in selling one boy this spring I will buy it from you. I want one to put in with my blue marans and my blue splash ones. That was the whole reason behind trying to hatch these eggs. Was hoping for a boy for my girls.

Good Morning Everyone. The fresh sprinkling of snow sure makes everything look pretty out here. I was a genius this morning and found a easy way to get my water out to the pen.....I used my kids sled!! So easy & hassle free. My DH will snow blow a path when the snow gets deep and the sled will make it smooth sailing.

The chickens were up and ready to get out in the pen. I brushed their walk off for a little bit of snow got on it and I know they would of thought....What the heck, that white stuff again! lol

My family & I spent the afternoon in Frankenmuth yesterday and had dinner @ Tiffany's. I must say for as much as we've been there over the years that little town always amazes me with the traffic it gets. Everyone came home with something except me. We were in a gift shop that had some very nice & reasonably priced items....Chicken items!! I spotted an oval rooster plate for my kitchen but it was sold out.

Oh well maybe next time!

Off to church we go......Everyone have a Wonderful & Blessed Day!!

I use a plastic tobbogan(sp) for hauling water to coops. Also feed and pine shavings. Got at meijers for about 13 bucks. Works great!!

Ha I considered getting one for an EE I have!
Her crop does not work good and the thing is huge. She tripes over her it and at times it drages on the ground. No feathers on the poor thing. I believe its called "Crop Stasis". Shellyb1969 suggested that I try to keep her separate with just chick food. So now Blossum is in the special needs coop
with Cleo the blindchick. They get chick feed, small amount of scratch and a few treats. This has helped her crop quite a bit so no bra for her yet!!

I think that I'll chalk this up to a pecking order scrabble. The last 2 days show no sign of injury. The girls are roaming outdoors just like any other day.

Wish we would get some snow, I'm tired of seeing the semi-frozen mud.

To answer some of the questions..I was told that he was vaccinated for Marek's Disease as a chick. I have not vaccinated for anything. I have not shown this bird. He has not been injured nor been in a fight with anything.
