taprock, I am so sorry to hear about your sick chicken.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge than I can help.

Grandma......I love it when she flies, especially when we have company and she takes off. They always ask......is that a chicken? The look of surprise on their face is priceless! lol She is our favorite and such a sweetie. I do think they have Road Runner ancestry running through their veins.....faster than lightening!

Taprock.....I try not to make a lot of candy/bake for just the reasons you stated.

Also, Praying that your chicken pulls through....You are doing what you can and keeping her warm & comfortable.

P.S. I'm gonna let my jacket soak over night, wash and then check it. We do have Oxyclean, never thought of using it...don't know why. I'll try it if a second attempt is needed.....which is most likely.

Taprock - I'm so sorry about your hen. I have not had my chickens long enough to have a medical emergency yet and I dread that I know it's coming one day. I hope she makes it or at least doesn't suffer.
Your coconut fudge sounds wonderful!! I love coconut anything and I love fudge.

M.sue - If you can't get the Blu Kote out try doing an abstract art on your jacket by spattering it with more!

I don't get around to posting here much, but I do try to read the daily posts. BF had his shift changed to 3rd, so I have rearranged my own sleep schedule to be able to spend time with him on his days off.
The chickens don't care about when we sleep, as long as we are out in the morning to give them treats.

They've been getting pears and a little scratch, sometimes a dropped bagel or burnt pancake, before we head to bed.

I've been making some treats as a gift and I don't know if I hit a snag or not. I found a recipe for buckeye candies and followed all the directions, but I'm not sure they came out right. The peanut butter center seems too soft and gooey. The chocolate shell has stayed intact but I'm not sure about how I am going to store them with other treats.
Did I make them wrong somehow? I haven't had them myself in years so I can't really remember how soft or hard they are supposed to be.

Correction: Yellow Jacket soaking in Lestoil, not Lysol! Lestoil is great but I doubt it or oxyclean will do the trick. Blue Kote is usually permanent!

Chickmate...that was my thought if it doesn't come out after a few attempts. It would no longer be know as my Barn Jacket but as the Chicken Splatter Jacket! lol

My one batch of fudge ended up a little soft so I ended up layering it in wax paper and tossing it in the fridge. It's for the guys my DH works with and they will inhale it before it warms up.

Taprock -

When my hen had an E.Coli Respiratory infection she had water for poop. Do you have any antibiotic you could give your hen? Couldn't hurt. I wonder if bad smell = infection?

Oh, yes. They can be flighty. The best I saw with our sebrights was when our 2 pigs broke out of their old pen. We looked all over after we finally got them back in their pen, but kept coming up 2 birds short. Where were they? On TOP of our 3 story farmhouse. I guess a 500lb pig chasing after you is great motivation.
