I DO want to, I just don't really have a place to keep chicks. I have no garage, no basement, only the coop. . . . and a brooder (NO!). . . . . .that. . . . . I could (NO!). . . . . set up (NO!). . . . . in. . . . the other. . . . . . shed (NO, NO, NO!). . . . if I just move the lawn tractor over a bit (NO!)

Got an extra bedroom? Bathroom? Did I see you say shed? Those work perfect as long as you have a heat source and not too much wind gets in there. You can keep an incubator in your kitchen, then when they hatch you can always find somewhere for a Rubbermaid container to go! They're so soft and cuddly and doesn't take much work. Grab a few eggs, stick 'em in an incubator and wait. Sorta like the sea monkeys as a kid...except these eggs have a potential of living! lol

Yay!!!! I just realized why I can't do it! I DON'T HAVE AN INCUBATOR!!!!

You guys are completely SHAMELESS!!

I'm sorry for leading you on. I seriously would love to get an incubator and try it. All your talk and pictures are getting to me. But, I can't afford one right now, so I would have to get chicks from someone who has hatched them, or put some eggs under my broody BR. With my luck as soon as I put eggs under her she'd decide she wasn't broody anymore. Then if she DID hatch them I'd have to set up a place for her and the chicks. . . . . . like the brooder in my other shed. I'm thinking about it. . . . . .but, no. I would rather get chicks from someone who hatched them and I would like something different than I already have. I just need to think this through and decide if I really want to have chicks in the winter when I don't have a good place to keep them. Except. . . . . . . . I could. . . . . . . put them. . . . . in the bathtub. . . . . in the guest bath. . . . . . until I get. . . . . the brooder set up. NO!! NO!! NO!! I'm going to go out and measure tomorrow to see if the brooder will fit in the shed if I move the tractor over. It probably won't. I'm sure it won't. It's a big brooder and a big tractor. It won't fit. But. . . . .if it DID. . . . . . . I would. . . . . . have to find someone. . . . . . . who would hatch. . . . . . chicks for. . . . me. And who would do that? Really, no one on this thread would do that.

Got the cow shed finished and got almost 3 acres of T-post pound into the ground for the fencing of the steers and hopefully a milking cow. My two sisters and I put the T-posts through the field and down the ravine in the thick woods, and over the creek two times at the bottom of the ravine, then up the very steep ravine, then finally out of the woods, and through the fields again. We are not done for we were very tired of pounding the post, cutting bushes, making sure that the posts are 25 feet apart, dragging the steel posts, and climbing the ravine.

I WOULD I WOULD!!!

Thanks to ChickwannaB my incubator has been on for a couple of weeks already...and I have two more incubators in the house next door. A neighbor asked in November if I'd incubate eggs for him in February. Sheesh I'm an addict I guess lol

I have some piggies and I know what they sit in all day so even if it were possible, I don't think I'd have a go with that. Anyway...

Keyt- cute little piggy. We have 2 pigs and one is named Rosie, too. (it was originally Risotto, but the kids and DH shortened it to Rosie and it never went back) Her and her sister, Willow, looked just like yours when they were younger. Our little piggies are now 600lb babies, though. Even though he's promised for months now, DH can't find it in him to say goodbye.

That's how everything here is built. However, we have also discovered something else fun. A lot of people (especially around here) will give stuff away. Like 4 different times we got practically brand new sets of tires. Sold them for $40 a pair. Also got a HUGE dog house. All it needed was some corners fixed and some paint. Sold it for $75. I also have a long-running ad on craigslist looking for scrap lumber. We get a lot of wood that way. One time a guy called me saying he had a truckload of lumber he used to rebuild his cottage. He brought it all down here, we loaded it in our truck and made a really nice chicken coop and sold it for $175!!!

The top to this besides just wood....an old above ground swimming pool!!!

People give scraps and even good pieces away all the time!!!

BTW, if you happen to have some lumber you're not using, let me know lol
