DaughterOfEve...... The cabinets came from Builders Resource. I love them, Medium Honey Oak, simple to clean and sturdy. My stove is a Kenmore Elite Dual Fuel. The range is gas and the oven is electric which has a convection setting also. I prefer to cook on a gas range even though I grew up in a house that had an electric stove.

Opa....what happened to the pet raccoon? Injuries no doubt. I bet your buddies daughter was upset.

Hello all! I am new to raising chickens (will get my first chicks in March) but I have been on BYC for months learning all I can before they arrive. I think I will add this thread to the others I am following. Have a blessed day.

Opa- I may have missed this along the way, are you a retired firefighter? That is my chosen career for a small dept outside of GR. If so just another in a long list of reasons to like you.

Hello and welcome Bianca67, just a little bit south of you, outside of GR. You should definitely follow this thread, so many nice and helpful chicken folks on here. Visit often though, if you don't you will end up getting behind in a hurry. Welcome Again

Welcome to the Michigan thread, Bianca67. It's a chatty group so check in often.

Check out our links to the 2012 Chickenstock.

I retired from the Westland Fire Department as a Captain. I had my 25 years in, I knew I wasn't going to get any higher since I wouldn't buy into the political games being played, so I figured since I wasn't going to like who was going to be my bosses that it was time to leave. I loved the job and looked forward to going to work every day but the amazing thing is that I never missed it when I left. This past December marked the 20th year since I retired so I guess that makes me an old fart.

Living here in the burbs means that I usually have to drive a fair distance to get chicken feed and supplies. While surfing CL for straw and whatnot, I came across a small co-op close to campus that I think I'll check out. They get their feed from a farm in the thumb and truck it in to their small farm in Washtenaw County. What do you think of these ingredients?

Ingredients: Organic Corn, Organic Roasted Soybeans, Organic Oats, Organic Spelt, Organic Barley, Poultry Mineral Concentrate, Calcium Carbonate, Organic Kelp. 50# runs $21 and the same mix with molasses is a buck more.

Nutrient content isn't noted but I'll ask when, if I decide to try it. They also list pig, goat and sheep food, plus corn, barley and wheat (spelt).

One other question, are stale potato chips alright for my feathered garbage cans? Or it that too much salt?

Anyone old enough to remember when something didn't cost much it was referred to as "chicken feed". Now chicken feed isn't "chicken feed". Purina Layena is $34 per 100 and Flock Raiser is $36, and the feed Raz is talking about is $42.00. My birds are going to have to start producing better or get part time jobs to help pay the feed bill.
