Good morning all! I am hoping that this new version will work out. I was just figuring most things out on the old one. I don't like changes either, but we shall see....

FarmerBoy, we used to raise pigs, back when we had kids to feed [not saying that the kids were pigs

] We always got them from an Amish fellow near Big Rapids.

Looks like lots of good stuff here if I can just figure it out!

Enjoy the beautiful day! Tonight starts our winter storm watch! Maybe we'll have to plow for the first time up here.

Thanks everyone for the reply regarding pigs. I would like to keep a few for breeding next year's crop of piglets, so that is why I was asking which breed would be best to keep year round.

Have a great sunny day!

I think this is going to take some getting used to. I'm still not fully awake and staring at this blurry eyed is not helping. It's not making sense at all. So I think I'll pop on later when the caffeine hits the system good to even try to make sense of it.

Farmerboy, we went the same route as Hillbilly Hen and got our pigs from an Amish man, too, up near Lakeview.

Morning All

Just wondering if anyone else is having trouble with this new format. I haven't posted much,I'm just gettin started but I read the posts everyday. Great people and information. I've been learning a ton. I'm not sure if it is the new format or my computer but most of the new post are off center and I can only see the left side so I have to guess what was written on the right side. I never have been great with a computer so it might just be me. I hate it when the thing I'm working on is smarter than I am. Guess I'll just chalk it up to old age. I'll keep trying to fix it. Any suggestions will be thankfully accepted.

Was her crop full first thing in the morning? A crop should not be full if she hasn't eaten yet.... There is something called an impacted crop, where sometimes long grass or straw or something gets bound up, and does not want to pass. You can soak bread cubes in olive oil, and feed them to her. Also massage her crop gently several times a day. That instance would be a hard full crop. Now if it is huge and squishy, there is something else called sour crop where stuff starts fermenting and makes them woozy. For that the first thing to try is to add 1Tb of cider vinegar to 1 Ga of water and give her just that to drink. For my girl i also gave her diced garlic and that helped. Keep us updated, and good luck!

I have a chicken that's behaving oddly.
My marans have always been shy and skittish, never getting too close but never pass up getting treats. Well, over the past few days I have noticed that one doesn't seem all that interested in treats or anything really. She will stand around, pick up a little scratch here and there, but overall is just kind of zoned out. She doesn't come running when I call, like the others do, and if I approach her she'll take off but stop as soon as I'm no longer near her. After she stops she just sits there.

This morning it seems that she didn't even want to leave the coop. She was standing on the ramp just outside the pop door while the others were out in the yard. I was able to walk into the run and pet her gently without her making much fuss or attempts to get away. I even picked her up and set her on the ground and she didn't seem to care, when normally she'd be squawking and trying to get free.

Her crop was full when I held checked her out and she doesn't feel like she's egg bound. She doesn't have any injuries and from watching her interact with the others she's somewhere in the middle of the pecking order. She still eats and drinks, just not as zealously as the other birds.

I just don't know what is going on with this chicken. Does anyone have any ideas as to why she would be acting so spaced out?

Sorry the above was a reply, just didn't get it right the first time!
