John, kinda sounds like Marek's disease, at least that is how Mareks starts. The Chicken Health Handbook by Gail Damerow is a good resource to have; it has diagnostic info in the back and is usually available at TSC.

I hope not! Anyway, this hen has always had a "runt" type issue fromabout 4 weeks of age seeming smaller, and having a less colorful, almost grayish, face and comb. The stumble came on one day and the next she can't stand. Well she's apart and I'll clean the coop ASAP. Hopefully someone else has seen this.

All kidding aside, Chickenstock has become an annual event that we all look forward to. It's open to one and all and we have had folks from Ohio, Indiana, and Canada come to join us for the day. Anyone with birds or animals they are wanting to sell or swap are free to bring as many as they want as long as they have proper cages and they are healthy. It is a great opportunity to add to your flock or to find that special breed you've been wanting. Most folks bring a dish to pass and the amount and variety they bring has made for an incredible lunch.
Many folks bring hatching eggs and chicks and other bring crafts to sell.

Each year we have had a raffle table that every member get a ticket for. Many bring items to donate to the raffle table ie. smoked chickens, feeders, waterers, pot holders, hand towels, painted gourd pots, and just about any small chicken related item. Amazingly the last two years there has been
enough that I think everyone went home with something.

And best of all it's an opportunity to visit with the people you have met on line.

Sounds great. Do your families come with you? I can't see my DH being excited to talk chicken (maybe eat chicken), my son very much.

Last year I thought it was a single's mixer and I would meet some chicks. Imagine my surprise in seeing all the families and married hens...I mean lovely ladies.

Ok... OLIVE! How much provisol do I give a chicken? I mentioned yesterday I think about Aster, my evil hen... She's definitely got wry neck... She's sitting on eggs. I can get her to eat, but she attacks my hand too! Lol. Poor girl. So I think I will put it in water for her with some electrolytes. Anyway, I figured you'd know. Lol.

I looked for wry neck in the poultry disease book I just received. They don't even mention it.

However, some addition research suggests that vitamin E with selenium is the curative for the condition. There is a good bit of discussion on the BYC forum about it, so you can search there.

eta: I found only one case study in the university library. Case Report-
Wry Necks Associated with Mycoplasma meleagridis
Infection in a Backyard Flock of Turkeys

I was serching... But being paranoid about dosages.... Lol. I hate the "few drops" answers. But did not see about the selenium. Did see bout the vit e though. Someone a also suggested magnesium... She has great timing... You want her? Lol. Evil shicken.

Ok, so, I took care of Evilrella. I gave her 3 drops on a small piece of bread that was nice and soft. I even got very brave to actually get my hands in there and took her out of the nest box. I have bruises... CHICKEN HICKIES! Well anyway, she had 9 eggs under her. I took out the 4 wyandotte eggs and left her 4. I then put a block up so the other girls can not get in there with her. They are just going to have to resign themselves to using the other nest box. Lol. The 2 favorite nest boxes or occupied. I put water in with her and food. When I took her out of the nest box, she screeched at me like I was killing her. Lol. My hands wanted too. Lol.

Hey RaZ, where did you get your book? I would love to read one and have one for reference.

I'm wondering if you couldn't use Bo-Se in the water? That is vit E and selenium in shot form we give to our newborn lambs every year.
