Hope is just finishing up a quilt that she has been working on for several years and later this week she wants me to list it on E-Bay.

It measures 80x96" and is made up of 525 blocks (1050 pieces of material)

I thought I'd post it here to show it off plus see if anyone might be interested in it before I list it. She is asking far less than many others I have seen listed.

That is just gorgeous. A lot of hard work and time in that. WOW I love it.

SAM!

Hope did a fabulous job on the quilt. It is beautiful. I think she should hold on to it- gift it to your son.
My Gram used to make quilts. All the time. She wouldnt give you one if you asked for one..nope, you had to be "mature and settled" before she would give you one. Family each got a quilt as she saw fit to do so.
I finally earned enough respect from her to give me my gift. I was married and had my son. I cherished that quilt. Kept it folded and stored in the closet so my son wouldnt get baby yuck on it.

I came home one day, and my ex-husband was changing the oil under the car, and didnt want to get dirty..or get the driveway dirty or something insane like that so he had laid down "a blanket we never used"...

yep. My grandmother's quilt.

I would of had a royal hissy fit, would of probably said some not so nice things.....like being Brain Dead or something!! I hope you were able to salvage it!!

About a week ago while trying to help someone on a different thread with a malnurished bird, i learned that feeding a bird too much protein can give them gout. (But they need more during times of stress and while they are moulting) Which gave me the question "how much is too much?" so i had to research it all, of course. (An egg, by the way is 6 grams of protein, and they can have beween 15-30 grams) That led to me reading an interesting article the other day on parrot nutrition, and the gist of it was that if you feed something like say, corn, which has a lot of nutrient "x" in it, it takes a lot of nutrient "y" to break it down and therefore you have to feed 2x as much nutrient "y" to make up for it. So basically me feeding my birds corn based scratch then giving them their daily ration of vitamins/minerals/proteins is getting me no where. But i do not like purina at all, or dumor which is made by purina. I can not use a feed which has extra calcium in it either because of my roosters, (also causes gout) and no one will eat powdered or crumbled ANYTHING even if it is the only food available for months because i already bought it and look it is GOOD for you! Sigh. Spoiled kids. For anyone who likes to read about stuff, here is the article that sparked my interest :
LET'S TALK ABOUT NUTRITION AGAIN

So today i went to Allendale and i stopped by the farm store there to see what they had that tractor supply didn't; i am interested in the "Kent" brand multi flock food. Has anyone else tried it? It has the yucca in it like my manna pro conditioning supplement. (helps stop stinky poops) and fish meal. It also says you can feed it to pigeons, so mabie i could feed it to my pet dove?

Ive got extra mutants- you can have a couple of them, quarantine them, and then they will be big enough to join your banty.
OR
you can wait and see what hatches from these silkie eggs.
Jus' saying.

Regardless, I think that even if a newcomer came from the same flock as your others- after any amount of time, another quarantine would be needed...

My babies are still stuck to Mom like glue- and they are what? five weeks old now? I figure they will ride out the winter under Moms feathers. She hasnt taken them out into the elements yet- they were peeking out at the snow today. None seemed very enthused.
Not to sound picky, M2em, are they sexed yet? I can't run the risk of having a roo here, considering my flighty neighbor. (BTW, I did snow-blow her walk yesterday).

Any new additions will definately be quarantined. It would be kind of nice to have some peepers in the living room for the SuperBolw party.

I sure do appreciate your offer.

Opa,Hope, that is absolutely beautiful!!! I LOVE QUILTS. I don't have the patience to make them. Have made a few baby quilts. How much are you asking? 80x96 that would be a twin bed with good hang over length I think...I have one on my bed now that I bought at our church silent auction. Never paid that much for a bedspread before but it was king size which gives a very good over hang on our queen size bed. have a couple hanging on the wall, and several plain square type from my mother. The work that goes into one like Hope made is unbelievable.

I'd recommend you read The Nutrient Requirements of Poultry for a more thorough understanding of the interplay between certain nutrients as well as what exactly "excess protein" is. ;)

This afternoon was nice out & the sun was shining so I figured I'd let the chickens out a bit. Nope, they weren't coming out no matter how much the sun was shining with that white stuff still on the ground. I had the pen door & the coop walk out door wide open......now way! My DD & I were finally able to coax half of them out with some whole wheat bread.....the others just enjoyed the view from the doorways.

They stayed next to the coop and ventured only where there wasn't any snow!

No, it was completely destroyed- and I never told a soul about it on my Gram's side of the family. Are you kidding? They would STILL be talkin about that down in the holler if I had told.

I cant recall what I said to my then-husband, but I guarantee it involved alot of cussing, alot of crying, and a whole bunch of being furious.

They are totally not talking about sex yet.
And unfortunately they didnt come with any blue or pink diapers.
Any other way to tell?

Some people can vent-sex young chicks but I have no idea how it is done.
