It is a plant native to the African dessert. A small display at Matthaei Conservatory was in bloom a few months ago.
The plant is a Lithops. They have windows in the skin to allow light to enter the inner surface of the leaf and go for years without blooming.

Quite the unique organism, eh?

bought some alfalfa hay for my hens, just got back from the vet with the cat, needed some boosters. Guess I will go out and toss a little around and see if it was worth the $$ I am home to day so they get to free range and are loving it.
farmboy did you start your pineapple plant from a store bought pineapple?

Yes, I started the plant form the top of the pineapple fruit, very easy to grow. RaZ, like your new avatar, but it will take me awhile to get to use to know that picture is you. I went to a tech school for 2 years studying plants and landscaping, and loved it.

My favorite breakfast too! Especially if there is cheese in them (which she didn't get lol). It did make me feel better to see her face caked in grits before I left this morning.

Raz - I am glad you changed our avitar too. It's pretty....the other one was a little creepy

Newish member here...just posted over in the intro section...but thought I should stop off here and say hi in person as well. I am a Michigander myself located on Byron (48418).

Today my ladies gave up their first 4 eggs (pic in my intro post)...so that prompted me to start posting. I have been lurking since back in September when we decided to start a backyard flock.

Not sure I'll be able to keep up with this thread...but you may see me from time to time.
