1muttsfan, at least you got some ice to fish on, ours has gone the way of the weather, here one day, gone the next. The local paper sponsers an ice fishing tourney this time of year for the last 20 some years, and I can remember once fishing it in a boat. this year there is shore ice in the boat ramps, and bad ice on the river and bay, so I don't know if anyone will get out. What do you fish for.

This might seem like a silly question, because who takes their chickens to a vet, but I have a sick rooster that I don't want to lose. Does anyone know of a vet that takes care of chickens anywhere near Lapeer County?

...
OH! And the chicks... How the world do I stop the food waste? Seems more food comes out of the chick feeder and ends in the litter... I put the feeder up on a 10 inch wide board, the just knock it off... I leave it on the shavings, it ends up full of shavings... And no... They are not cleaning up the ness either. Lol... Kinda like my boys. Lol. So, what should I try different?

I also would like to know the answer to that one. The first chick I hatched out is pretty good sized now and it's not the food he waste-it's the water !!! He likes to take his clod hopper big feet and scratch at the waterer until he gets it tipped over !! I put it on a board, i put it up on something so it's not as accessible to his big feet and he still manages to tip it over. And I have 2 smaller ones in with him. I have to change their litter at least 4 times a day because he gets it all wet. What is the answer ?

When I get a hen that goes broody and I don't want her to be , I just move her to a different pen. Has worked for several of them so far. In fact I will be doing that today with one. Black Australorp is being broody.

todays photo shoot. RaZ if you see what you want, tell me- I could even take them to work this afternoon, and you could pick them up there.

First though, is little Beeper- who is being a demanding brat today. Wants to sit IN my hand, not next to me. In my hand. Cant type like that.

Yes mom, if you can't stand her demanding ways and challenged appearance, I would make the sacrifice to take her for you - hehe.

Nova, take the food out completely for a few hours a day, then they will have to mooch around and pick up the leftovers for a while.

I put my waterers on a heavy paving block, you can also run a wire around the upper part to help hold it upright.

those feathers are sure filling in aren't they! So bratty tho... Get rid of her. Give her to me.

Nova-
she is messier than a whole flock of chicks! Ninety percent of her shavings are her food..she works real hard to get a little IN her, I dont know why- her beak doesnt seem messed up.

BUT-
both of you, look at her siblings-

Do y'all see a theme there? Theres ONE chick that tried hard to be in EVERY picture..lol.
AND-
NovaAman, and 1Muttsfan,
in the fourth picture, on the very far right...littlehead wants to come live with you. Yep, you two can fight over that one.

Anyway here is the condensed version. Morning. Wet raining snow, glad cleaned coop yesterday. Took dog for a ride to get shavings and a pig ear. Wyndottes don't like getting their feet in the snow. Molting RIR is now a porcupine.
I had spring fever really bad yesterday, planning the garden and getting that new barn/coop put in along with more run space. We sold our camper last summer so we should be able to expand.

Nova - boy girl girl boy
CG - would love to go back to school. I left half way through my Information Systems program when I had my DD. All I could muster was a Liberal Arts degree from my credits. Problem is that now I'm not sure what I want to be when I grow up. (i'm only 46 after all).

Best wishes for a great day.
