Thanks all. :(

Nova- CONGRATS! Now quit being a meddling grandmother..put some feed and a chick waterer near Mama Hen and let her do the rest. When its time, after the eggs have hatched and she says its time, she will get up and bring them babies with her Just wait until you hear all the sounds she makes to communicate with the babies. Its so cute to watch the babies run to keep up in a line behind her..

Take lots of pictures!!!

RAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

How are the babies doing? How was their first day in their new home? Tell me tell me tell me...

AND have you given them official names yet?

Hmm, I think there is a time difference between our states - you guys must all have had dinner by now. I'm just about getting ready to start. Duck Breast!

I'm just a teensy bit envious of all you hatching folk - my little cockerel has been trying with the ladies, but there's so many (23), and he's spending so much time trying to keep the other guy away, I'm not sure how many eggs are actually fertile. That's too many for one little guy, but he just won't share. Not sure what to do.

I think I may capture the other roo and put him out of sight so Spike can get busy. Still won't know tho, will I?

I'm sure most people here have had dinner now -- it's 8:30 p -- but with farm chores to do, extra office work load with tax season prep and kids to run to practices (and back home again) we're just getting dinner started here, too. I haven't the time to make duck breast though it's a spaghetti night for us.

IME 23 is not too many for an active, dominant roo, but ymmv. All you need to do is start cracking eggs and checking yolks and you'll know how effective he's been real quick.
