Well this has been a sh#tty day. I lost my first two lambs of the season. I went out early to check the sheep and I seen this one in labor. I went closer to check her over and seen she had cast her withers (uterus out) without the lambs being born first. Ran back in and called my friend to come over and help me, I already knew the lambs were dead but we needed to get them out of her and get her uterus back in. What a job it was. In all my years of having sheep this is only the second time this has ever happened. Once in there to get the lambs out we found what the problem was. The first lambs head was turned and it got stuck. It took us well over an hour to get the first one turned properly and get it out. Then the second one had to be waaaay up where we couldn't hardly reach it. What a job !!!! Mom is in a pen resting now. Just hoping she makes it.
Oh well, the joys of farming.

Thanks Farmerboy. Just a part of farming. I don't expect anything else (but then I didn't expect that either). Doesn't happen that often.
I am jealous of your sand. I need some badly. I need to get a hold of my neighbor and tell him I need some.

Hey Everybody,
NBC nightly new is going to have a story on Snowy Owls tonight. Sorry for the late notice, but maybe you can catch it on the internet later if you can't watch in a few minutes.

Has anyone here ever delt with demodex mange, generalized? My sister has a puppy that has it pretty good. She is trying the ivermectin, but we don't know anything past trying that....? Had it been regular mange we could've tried brewer's yeast. I used it successfully on my first cat when i was a kid. Don't ask me where i read it, or how it works, but the dang thing grew all his hair back after using it for a week.

Aw, RBahmer, sorry about your losses. Hope Momma Ewe makes a full recovery. Can you give a sheep a hystorectomy? Just curious...

AND, baby number 5 made it out and was nearly dried and fluffed by the time I got home. Had a bit of something hanging from the belly area, so I am guessing it will fall off. Believe it or not, this one is the silkie/fav baby, so I am very surprised at that cuz it incubated the longest, longer than the full fav baby who was put in 2 days after... I was kinda hoping they'd both be pure favs, but I am not complaining. I know Roger can do the job too now. LOL. It is so tiny! Black skin, black chickmunky look and funky fuzz on his little head!

AND sad news too... Baby number 4 did not survive. It looks like it got messed up in the wood shavings in the nest, or Leila buried it in the shavings. It does not look like it ever finished drying and fluffing out. That one was Asters baby... BUT, Skeeter has 2 of Aster's eggs under her that are due to hatch this weekend... SO, a successful hatch, if not a successful survival. Jace helped me bury the little thing. SO, I have 2 black chickys and 2 yellow chickys. They are already running around their little coop, and YES, it is funny to hear Leila talk at them and all. So, cute. They run out, run around, then run back under her.

I brought corn tortillas out to the coop tonight. My broody Skeeter decided to come off the nest and get some. Veena went after her, pecking the crap out of her till she got back on the eggs. Poor Mama... SO, I put some corn tortilla in with her, and then when I came back out with peas for the ducks, I gave her some of them too. Figure she needs a spoiling. She's been in the box for 2.5 weeks. LOL. I got some chick wire and screen to tack up this weekend. Well Friday when I do not work.

thanks Olive. Its chirping in my shirt. Lol I am going to slip I. Under skeeter when I go to work I think.. If it hatches, I will try putting it back under Leila. If that doesn't work, I have a nice big brooder light.
:to
Also, it think this one is the egg I put in last, 2 days after the others, the day buffy met with the hawk...

too bad you had to go to work!! You could have hatched it in your bra, You would really be chicken mama then

how is the new baby doing? congrats on all your new chicks.

HERE IS A PICT OF SOME WHEAT SPROUTS / SEEDLINGS I'M TAKING OUT TO THE GIRLS IN A LITTLE BIT . tHEY HAVE BEEN GROWING FOR ABOUT A WEEK. I DON'T PUT A DATE ON THEM WHEN I START THE PROCESS ANYMORE. I SIMPLY TAKE THEM OUT WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT. THAT DEPENDS ON SEVERAL CONDITIONS. i TOOK SOME OTHER PICTS THE OTHER DAY OF THE SET UP. ANY ONE INTERESTED ?
I would prefer you buy the stamp, I really want to retire but until I do PLEASE keep buying stamps

There is a once a month flea treatment that you can get at the vet but I can't think of the name of it. It starts with a P I know. I think it is like Promaris or something like that. Don't work worth a crap on fleas but it does work for that particular kind of mange. Also you can get spray- on Frontline that is for that. I'm not positive but I think Jeffer's sells it.
If the dog has not been tested for heartworm I would think twice about giving it Ivermectin. I give it to my dogs once a month but they have been heart worm tested. If the dog has heartworm and you give it Ivermectin you can kill it.
