Homemade ice cream is the best!! For as much as we consume ALL YEAR....it's more convenient for me just to go to the store & buy it....on sale of course!

Snowflake....I told my DH when he was browsing that it was gonna be my tool because whenever I need any of his I can't find them. He said "Don't worry you can keep it in your shed!"

well just went out to let the hens out and there were 2 big hawks sitting in the trees behind the run. so I guess they are in for a while longer. maybe when I get back from shopping

I am so irratated right now... My kids dad claims the childcare credit for the kids... I claim the EIC... well the IRS keeps rejecting my return this year, because H&R block effed something up in the filing of Johns returns, and now I can't even claim EIC! I have done nothing different on my returns this year, and they said everything would work out the same. I KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN! I need the money that I should have gotten to pay property taxes from the guy I got my house on land contract from so I don't lose the house. He never paid them. Told me December. This is just a crap shoot of a morning now. H&R Block better figure this sh*% out and fix what ever they did wrong.

That sounds like a nice nightmare of a time. I stopped going to H&R block years ago when they messed up a return of mine. Luckily a friend of mine had me go to an independent tax person they used and they fixed it. Been going to them ever since and now most of DH's family does, too.

RBahmer- poor mama. Sorry you lost her. It always seems to be the ones you like the most when these things happen.

All this talk of dremels is getting me thinking of firing up DH's to try it out, but like snowflake said earlier I would like a proper demonstration first. I can just see myself messing it up on the first go. The towel idea sounds like a good one, though.

RBahmer, sorry to hear your ewe didn't make it.

Chickmate, I know who lays what egg, and who is the daddy. Roger was only mating Leila and Buffy. Mr. Fluffers, the rest and Buffy, cuz Buffy would go back and forth between the garage and the coop. And the last 2 days of her life she was with Mr. Fluffers in the coop, so I know her last egg was pure. I didn't have any eggs from Leila. She went broody after I took the last egg she had laid... Well she went broody the day after she laid her last egg before becoming broody.. Yeah, thats it.

Sorry you lost your maran... I can't remember who now.. But, sorry anyway.

Keep on their butts about THEM fixing it!! I've found out in the past ( not with taxes) that when some places screw up they are lazy and want you to to do all the leg work before it gets corrected! They are the one's that screwed up and they are the one's getting payed to do their job!!

Nova, the chicks are just adorable!! Love that lill one's head peeping out!!
RBahmer, so sorry about your ewe and babies. I know it's part of farm life, but also hard to take when it's a pet.
Sam, will be thinking of you. Know it'll be hard. Remember the good times that home has given youl

to the newbies.

Got to see 6 of my 8 grandkids yesterday. I use to have the two younger ones all day, pick up the other two after school and visit the two older ones at my daughters house where we all had dinner. When I took all the girls home after dinner, would see my step grand daughter if she wasn't with her dad, and see the new baby. Well, now all but the baby is in school. Different schools, so too difficult too pick up. But, did get the chance to pick up two of them after school yesterday, and make my rounds before coming home. Sure do miss seeing them every week and being a part of their lives. But, all Elli and Ryla could talk about is going camping with us again this summer. Had a blast with them last summer. Looking forward to this summer. Good to know we made fantastic memories with them.
Enjoy your day....

LOL. I love it...in a camper, of course. No tents for me. We had so much fun with the grandkids. Went to the Cheeseburger fest in Caseville and had so much fun. They really love their cheeseburgers! The whole campground was decked out. People decorated their campsites like it was Christmas.

No, I haven't made ice cream with RAW milk but I am looking into owning my own milk share...still researching this though. But I did use the buttermilk left over from making butter this weekend in this recipe. YUM!

Nova - I was the one that lost my little Marans...thank you.

i wanna go camping...

ME TOO! We try to make at least one bike camping trip up to Leelanau peninsula for a weekend... we like the orchard beach campground in Manistee.

M. Sue - I would say, use what ever position you can that leaves the bird comfortable and still, to allow you to trim the nails. One thing to keep in mind, there is a trick to using a dremel, I use the 1/2" barrel sander for the nails. The barrel turns in one direction so you want to be careful about how you approach the nail If you touch the edge of the nail against the direction the barrel turns you can "catch" the nail, sorta like going down a dirt road that's rutted like a wash board. It will be uncomfortable for the bird and can cause you to slip and maybe hit them in the skin. Make sure you hold the toe as close to the nail as you can for support.

Go with the direction of the spin until you get the sharp edges off, then you can move the dremel around more.

Sillychicken.....Thank you for the tips and the illustrated examples. I think I might have my DH do the filing on the first couple of hens & I'll do the holding. He has lots, lots more experience handling tools like this than I do. I think once we initially get a few done then I'll feel comfortable doing it.

Now next Big Decision is....What color of polish would they like!!
