Here's the scoop with my Veena...

She's had a bath. She has so much poopoo stuck to her vent area that I could not get off dry. SO, washed her butt. Treated her to a blow dry and fluff, a bowl of egg yolk and buttermilk, and stuck her in the cat carrier. She is sitting on my entertainment center downstairs, so the kids can't mess with her and the dogs can't try and kill her.

Heres the scoop with the ducks....

They are so stupid. I gave them a new pool. Ramp to get in and out... Its bigger, deeper... They are afraid of it. Idiots. Yet, they will cross the street to get into the stream. Stupid. They are funny as heck. Guess you gotta train them. Yes you. Not me. YOU. LOL.

The 5 week olds? They are good. Surviving the door to the coop being open. I didn't let any down today cuz I was cleaning the back yard up. I have a huge stick pile to burn. I am going to buy a few 2x4s on the cheap to make them an 8ftx5 run. I know it isn't big but it will keep them safe from predators for now. And safe from the big boys. Roger is already trying to attack. He's a funny guy. Guess he figures there is something he can beat up now instead of being beat up by Mr. Fluffers. Did I mention that Roger LOVES to beat up the ducks? Yup. That is funny. I will do what I can to figure out how to make and post a video of it one day... LOL

Well, sounds like the duck trainers are here... Gonna go watch that.

I've been following all the discussion about crop problems and worms. I am new to all this. How frequently do chickens have problems with their crops? Is it something that you routinely check for?

Mabe the worms once a year, or if there is a serious weight loss issue. My 2 EE hens were adults when i got them, and the one was already down with the sour crop and worms when i got her. I guess the previous owner didn't know what to do so he sold her. She acted VERY shy and like she was used to being picked on, my guess is she wasn't getting enough to eat and filled on straw. The other one started filling on oyster shell soon after i got her, cause she was too scared to go to the food dish. So as long as you have plenty of food and make sure you have extra dishes when introducing the newbies, you should be OK. That was my intro to chicken health lol. Both are doing well now.

Once my rhubarb is up you'll find snake nests in there - every year! The best snakes are the Hog-Nose which flattens it's head and strikes while hissing and snarling. The only problem is they are harmless and fun to catch. Easy too, if approached they roll over and play dead. Boys never grow up, at least not this one.

cool, wish we had some of those, the grandsons would have a ball trying to catch them. We had a lot of garden snakes and some blue racers when we first moved in. don't see them very often any more. Now that the dogs are gone maybe they will come back.

fuzzybut love, the first time I wormed with Fenbendazole per vet. I was afraid they weren't getting proper amt. as he said to put in water. so then I gave it to them individually they also got corid for cocci... then a month later I treated with ivermectin. in the water. ..... they have also been getting garlic water,pumpkin seeds(got a bunch of pumpkins from farmer) ACV, probiotics, I even bought some coconut oil which is said to be hight in anti-bacterial, melted it with honey and oat.( Tasted pretty good) vitamins & electrolyts. Think I used the ivermec. twice. this has been since Oct.

wasn't this a beautiful day?? love this winter. Nova it is hard to hold off on starting seed. I even thought today about trying a heat lamp on some seeds to see how it would work.

Welcome back Opa-Wan.

Well, I fed Veena scrambled yolks/garlic/buttermilk. Also gave her some grapes cut up. She chowed the grapes, left the eggs. I left them in with her though. She seems pretty calm in the carrier, not so ticked off at me now. Maybe she's enjoying the vacation... I don't think so. LOL. I will let her out to walk around later. If she's still puffied up, she will spend some more time in the carrier getting spoiled... I do believe she laid an egg today. At least there was one in the nest box that was her color.

My kiddo is sick. Poor guy has a fever and a cold. Love when they are cutting molars. Teething sucks. Teeth good.

We tryed training the ducks to get in the pool. NOPE. Even putting them in the pool, showing them the ramp to get in... NOPE. Silly things. I snatch two of them up, put them in the pool, and held them under their bellys so they'd see, and they were like, "ok... got it..." They stayed there for a few minutes, swam around then FREAKED again. LOL. I hope tomorrow will find them happy with the deeper, bigger pool. I mean, they can actually swim in this one, not just chill... Ducks man... I tell ya. OLIVE WANT SOME MUTT DUCKS? They're runner/campbell mixes....

fuzzybut love were do you get your black walnut? I have read several articles on its use as a wormer. How much do you use?...always wondered why you can take a pet stool to vet for fecal test but not so easy for people. When my son and granddaughters were little they seemed to think dirt was a great treat. worried all the time about parasites.My dad always ate the whole apple core,seeds & all, said it kept parasites away.

LOL. I am going to use my sun lamp for SAD. LOL. Really! I figure I can start my toms in the house and have them early. Can even start some cuke bushes and grow them in the house, move them to the deck when its warm. I mean, whats the point of having trellises if I dont put them to use... Even in the house! LOL. Maybe even start some bells and beans... I have an area in my kitchen I can start them... Harden them off on the deck when its time.... I can. Really I can. I just know I can. I will just have to chicken wire them off to keep the cats out... Keep the dogs from thinking its a convenient pee spot... I can do it. LOL.


Actually, I am really considering investing in an indoor greenhouse starter, just so I can keep the cats away. I hate those little trays with the tops.. My cats will sit on them. They think everything is for them to sit on. And when you have a 24 pound rat, i mean cat... SMUSH!

My step ma said that when her kids were little they got pinworms... Can't imagine... ALthough, I sometimes think that maybe I wouldn't mind a tape worm for a few months... Least ways till I am down a few dozen pounds... Yet, I can't imagine getting dewormed for that either. Just seems... wrong.
