I just got back from Monroe County Fair- and I found chickens that I want. I was very sad that I couldnt buy them. They were dalmations....I am going to guess silver speckled Hamburgs. They really just looked like white birds with black polka-dots and I want some.

I really want a few pullets of any laying breed- and now that I am looking for some, I am really sad that I cant find any at all without making a 2 hour drive one way.

The fair was fun. I enjoyed the Poultry barn- I just thought that they would have leftover birds for sale. Some BIG turkeys there.

I tried to convince my husband that nobody would care if I had a pygmy goat- they are smaller than my dog. However, he wasnt falling for it. I knew I shouldnt have let him come with me.

I saw them too!!! And way too many cornish x, very yucky looking.

I have a few pullets, and a couple hens but they are loud. Not good for hiding

Andrea,

Did you see the muscovy ducks? My daughter fell in love with them- I have a hard time getting past their fleshy faces.

Speaking of loud- Carmen, my chicken, kept jumping up trying to grab my coffee cup this morning- and when I sat down (coffee was only warm, not hot) she dunked her head in for a 'bite'....she was sooooo MAD

I know where the saying, "mad as a wet hen" comes from.

She kept giving me an evil eye and muttering/growling and fluffing up her feathers. The more I laughed, the more she complained.

I love her.

My mom tells me that if I had to give birth every day, I would be cranky too.

Yes, but I didn't think they looked too bad really. I loved all the Pekings! I almost went to the 4h small animal auction this morning, dh wanted to get a turkey for the freezer

Did you see the beautiful white Cochin pair that won the best breeding pair? They were nice! Some of the chickens were not so pretty looking.

The meatbirds were so hot- I felt sorry for them panting, looking half spent, and rather dirty. My daughter got her face too close to the little black seramas cage, and the roo pecked her in the lip.

I love geese, and I didnt really get to see the ones they had. I was more busy trying to find out what breed those dalmations were- and if I could buy them. I could never do an auction- I cant understand what the auctioneer is saying, and I would end up paying hundreds of dollars for a four dollar chicken

The fair in Imlay City starts on tuesday ( aug. 5). They will have their livestock auction on the 7, starting at 1 pm.
Went to the Chickenstock in Potterville. Not a big turn out but we never run out of things to say.
Thanks to Frankenchick for the dogs and sides and arranging the event.
Vivki2x2- Thanks for that Fowlfest link. I went last year and plan on going this year. Its worth the drive and they do have birds for sale. I got two bantam Salmon Faverolles last year.

Sounds like the local county fairs have a decent variety of chickens! Our local county fair had a bunch of Cornish X with one Polish and one Bantam (not sure of the breed, I think it was a d'Uccle).

When is the Washtenaw or Lenawee county fair?
