Hi Everyone, Is anyone on here selling Black Copper Marans? I am looking for 2 pullets.

Jerry in Ada has black french copper marans, very pretty!

Eeee! Two ducklings are outta their shells! All are pipped! Eleven eggs made it this far (one was a quitter midway though incubation). I am worried about one little peep, since the duckling pipped through a blood vessel. There is blood all over the shell. Last time that happened during a hatch, the little one didn't make it. BUT the duckling in the egg is moving and chirping when I tap on the incubator.

congrats on your duckies, hope they all hatch.

My fecal check ran me $18 this fall. As for the the microscope and doing it yourself I might get brave some day after educating myself on HOW TO & WHAT TO LOOK FOR. My son has a nice microscope we bought him a few years ago....it's got good power and if I can remember right Raz thought it would be strong enough to detect what I'm looking for. One of those things to add to my list.

my daughter has a friend that is a vet assist. thought I might get brave and see if she could teach me

I live in the eastern part of the tip of the mit. Hawks is over by Rogers City. Alpena is mostly where we do our shopping...45 miles from us

When you move to the hunting property you pay the price of being in the middle of nowhere. Don't get me wrong we do love it here. Came from Millington (east of Flint) I had chickens there, but when we moved we only brought a few and they didn't take to much to the change so I am expecting 25 little ones sometime next week. So excited. Haven't had any chickens for about 5 years so I need to clear out the garden supplies from the coop and relocate all that to the barn. We have two calves and two piglets also. Plus my babies two Jack Russells Skip and Dixie. They re both going to be 4 yrs this year. Never have ordered chicks from a hatchery before so looking foward to see how that turns out. Been reading about some nightmares. Wish me luck. Nice to meet everyone and looking forward to the chats.....dascountry

or "Vanillia" and "Bean" or "Cinnimon" and "Sugar"...I could do this all day. lol I am going to my first Beekeeping class tomorrow....soo excited!

hey farmerboy, have you thought of selling shares in your cows If you buy a share, you get to purchase all the milk you need. A farmer in Howard city does this, it is a legal way to sell raw milk. I would love to get some but Howard city is a bit far to travel for milk every couple days. don't know if I could store a weeks worth in my fridg. ,,Just a thought, you do the work we get to benefit

I really don't know if he is pasteurizing or not. went on line and checked it out about a yr. ago. forgot most of the details.

The class is in Lowell. (Wittenbach/Wege Center in Lowell) Registration ended on Wednesday but I don't think the class is full. Love Ginger and Ale

I was happy to see someone else had gotten mealworms for their chickens. Surprised the birds didn't love them. I got a thousand from Reptile food on line for treats and to raise a couple colonies for freezing for winter. Hmmm, maybe we will not have to freeze any. Bet we can have three or four colonies with this large a start. Now the container is writhing with worms.... Used to grow/raise them for critters in biology classes. They really are no bother. Put 10-15 in my palm the other day, held hand out and it took about a nannosecond for the 5 birds to peck them up. The cuc maran really went ape. She alone must have eaten half of them. Never knew a chicken could move its head that fast, and she almost drew blood from my palm cause she pecked so hard. Think I will not feed them to her like that again.

My computer did me in again,yesterday. Turned it on and got a message that disappeared so fast I couldn't read it. Font was so large I could only see two posts per screen w/o scrolling. It was good ,seeing. It was bad reading. Went to control panel and after three hours yesterday and one and a half this A M, I managed to get something reasonable. Don't really know how though.

They did like the mealworms...they just grabbed the cooked chicken breast first. They were all in frenzy grabbing, running & snatching from each other.....quite funny to watch!

Nova, I agree with grandma, before using antibiotics try to find out what is wrong. Use of antibiotics for the wrong illnesses is a waste of time and money, and puts the patient at risk of further illnesses. We tend to think of antibiotics as harmless, but in truth incorrect use of antibiotics has led to the problem of MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) and other bacterial resistances. Exposure to inadequate or improperly used antibiotics increases the risk to you and your family that an antibiotic may not work for you anymore, as bacteria pass resistance to each other.

And as to raw milk (unpasturized if it is raw) it is no more healthy, nutritious or benificial than pasturized milk, and a whole lot safer. How do you know that farmer is properly disinfecting his facilities? Pasturization removes harmful pathogens and changes the milk quality insignificantly. You can even use pasturized milk to make cheese (not ultrapasturized though, just doesn't work)
