Everybody has their own opinions

We could argue all day about raw-pasturized milk. My point was that getting raw milk from someone else is always a risk. And the difference in nutritional value between pasturized and raw milk is negligable, and may not be worth the risk in terms of infectious disease. Got a goat in your backyard that you milk yourself, sounds a lot safer to me. Old days milk was taken from cows that were individually cared for, cleaned before milking, into equipment that had been carefully cleaned and scalded. And people still got diseases like Tuberculosis. But I have used raw milk for cheesemaking; from someone I knew really well, and I was there when the cows were milked.
I'm not going to argue with anybody about raw - pasteurized milk. Everybody has their own opinions. But I would NEVER recommend it to anyone for their kids. I just chose to give it to mine.

I'm with you, Opa. I do the crosswords every day. I like the challenge of the Sunday NYT crossword, I have even managed to finish a few.

Babigyrl, I would love to take the beekeeping class just to see how they teach it. I learned from a commercial bee farmer and his father. The old man had some peculiar ways dating back to the 30's.

BobBry, I should start raising my own mealworms, care to share some tips. I don't have the time to read all of the post on that forum.

Olive, let's have that hop soda and watch the discussion about raw milk unfold. We could use a forum dust-up, it's been pretty polite here for a while.

We could stand a rise in blood pressure.

Last big difference of opinion that I remember was the Christian/Pagan discussion a few months ago. Besides, I like stirring the pot sometimes.

Back to polite and cute...The Uggos are now named Ginger and Pepper. Thanks for the help.

And lastly, I found this on FB this morning. http://www.heritage.com/articles/20...oc4f319c557ecfe370694379.txt?viewmode=default

Heheh. It always stays fairly polite around here so I doubt we'll get much of a show, but I'm up for the hops soda regardless. LOL! We can't even make religion a hot topic around here; the most that resulted in is the occasional half-hearted, passive-aggressive attempt at conversion since. BORING.

The only hot button I hit was when I did a random ramble about spelling and grammar usage. The moderators pulled that thread within minutes.Said it caused hurt feelings.

X2. Each to their own. I was not trying to force anything down at anybody's throat. If I get a chance to get married and have a passel of kids, I will give them milk straight from a healthy cow, right now, I just will drink it myself. :) Its snowing a lot already. Almost 2 inches or so. I got the back door of the coop mostly done yesterday, and I can access cow shed without going outside much. :yesss: Now, I need to finish putting sand in the last pen, then I am finished! :woot

Word is, the buttermilk works better than yogurt for the chickens.

I come here and ask advice. I take everyone's advice very seriously. I tend to go with the majority.

I am seriously tempted to go to school, take an exotic bird course... Lol. I would love if there were a school near me where I could do a course for livestock health, but there isn't. And I have too many responsibilities here. So, I have to learn by trial and error and the advice and experience that I find here. I am happy to have a vet near me, even when he is gone on vacation. I have also if anyone has an in-depth chicken book to recommend beyond chickens for dummies and idiots guide to chickens, that would be great.
