He'll be fine! Yup! Go ducky! Go Ducky! Think maybe mom kicked him out?

AND I need help... Mental, yes, I know... BUT won't get that here. LOL. I need baby chicken and mama help...

So here's what happened... Skeeter has been getting antsy to get out of the coop. Today, she and her babies were out of the coop and in the underrun when I went out to close up. The babies can not get back in the coop. There are coons and possums galore here and there is no safe way to leave them in the run, since it is NOT predator proof. Just snow proof. Well, anyway, any one have a nifty idea as to how to make a ramp that the littles could get back up that isn't going to extend into the duck area? The winter run is only 7x8 and the ducks have half of it. SO, the chickens area of that part of the run, outside of the underrun that is, is only 3.5x8. The under run in 4x8. I do not have a hole in the bottom of the coop right now, because I have the wire off the under run so they'd have more room if the snows were bad. Well anyway, I pushed the hay and wood chips back up against the plastic poultry fencing that separates the two sides of the coop, but she keeps digging it out so she can go all over the coop. Her 2x4 area is not big enough for her after being in the coop for the last month and some... It was not fun getting in the underrun to snatch her babies away from her while she was having a total hissy fit at me. She's an attack mom. I was getting her babies and handing them up to Jace to put back in the coop. Once I got the last one, she went in the coop. But was totally pee-oed. Her chickys are only going on 3 weeks. I have no idea how they even got down other than just fell/jumped down 2 and a half feet...

I grew up in Galion,Oh and used to LOVE to go to the brat fest!! :)

Dont give up on them, yet, Jen- they may just be late!

I have two broodies they are still sitting. The eggs didnt come from Theron today- so maybe tomorrow...but I think I will put those eggs under both of them, and that way if the one gets up early, I can stick her eggs under the other broody.

HA! wanna know something funny...I came home and decided to knock open the last 3 eggs before pitching them to make sure they weren't alive in there and as I picked up the 1st one I heard "peep! peep!" :D I don't know about the other ones...I date my eggs from the day they were laid and i put all the eggs in on 1/30 but the remaining 3 are dated 2/1, 2/1, and 1/31. Sometimes I throw some in the day or two after the intial incubation starts...cause I figure they'll be hatching for a couple days anyways :) SO....time to sit on my hands lol
Want to know something REALLY cool!!!! I think I got a SPLASH showgirl chick!!!!

Oh crap. I found a thread with a link to this site http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044

and besides MG and MS there are a huge number of diseases! Make me almost want to stick my head in the sand and give up poultry raising.

But not quite yet. So far I've been lucky? I guess and haven't lost a bird to any diseases that I know of anyway. Unless you can call minks and hawks and foxes and my neighbor's dog a disease?

Thanks for the heads up.

The male Muscovy is a silver. MG stands for Mycoplasma G. I had MG and Coryza last year that resulted destroying my flocks, and I have been rebuilding my farm slowly since then. But now it looks like that I have MG again. :barnie I am waiting for the test results to come next week.

A hair dryer can do wonders for quickly warming up a cold baby. Just make sure you wave it around so it doesn't get too hot. One spring we got a crazy, heavy rainstorm in the middle of the night that flooded our brooder coop at the time. It was filled with 150 CX chicks at the time. DH went out to check on them at 5am before heading to work and they were soaked, cold and lifeless. He ran in, woke me up and went back out to get them with a laundry basket. He piled them in and brought them in where I'd laid towels on the floor in our bathroom. I got a hand dryer for each hand and as he laid them out on the towels I started warming. Any that showed any sign of life -- which was often nothing more than a shallow breath -- got stayed on the towels until I'd dried it completely. Most came back to life. And ended up making it.

He became a little livelier and started to sit up, so I've got him in a box, looks like the light has gotten it to about 88 degrees, dipped his bill in water, I think he drank, can't be sure. I put a mirror in but just found an old fluffy chick toy. When I put it in he perked up and now just tried to jump out of the box.

Fingers still crossed.

It's been a long day and I'm very tired so I'm just going to say:

congrats on all the new chicks

hello to the new people

Chickmate - where in Australia? I lived there in the 1970's.
Lived in Melbourne (Croydon) and travelled from Adalaide to Cairnes and back through Sydney.

CG - There are people from all over. Queensland, Sydney, Adalaide, Melbourne, even Tazmania. We think we have it bad with raccoons, they have to worry about Tazmanian devils and goannas not to mention 9 of the most poisionous snakes on earth!! You sure have been around haven't you? How fortunate to have seen so much of this world.

Hi All, I am froma small town in the U.P. called Engadine (its at the eastern end) anyone else from around here?
