Good Grief, I just bid on more eggs.

But, my one little girl is lonely and they ship the 8th the same as my other eggs, and they would be cute, and....

Also does anyone have any recommendations (books, sites etc.) if I would like to read about breeding or genetics?

When I began reading about chicken ing I found a lot of help in our library. Librarians Know lots about books selection. Go to the library section on line, lotsa help. How do you bid on eggs?

RaZ,

I read in, can't remember which book, that placing all roosts on an even level eliminated that poop on
each other and some possible competition for the highest roosts. I did it and ,,, no probs.

Aaagh. Been thinking my really cool giant indoor bean plant was sterile, so i haven't let it set seed. Even mutilated a few flowers yesterday, trying to figure out how to pollinate. Googled greenbean pollinating, and found out that they pollinate themselves!

Hopefully i'll get some seeds on time for spring planting! This thing is setting clusters of 4-5 butter cream colored flowers that age to yellow right before the bean sets. Would be really neat to pick clusters of beans! Seed was pale grey with maroon colored paint pony spots. Never seen one like it. It had set out a root in the pod, so i planted him in a pot by my slider. He's easily 6-7 feet tall and still making vines and going. I'm thinking plant a few for a tasty privacy screen? I also found some crayon purple seeds last fall, some with definite crease-back...? I thought crease-backs were a specific kind. Hmmm...my mad science continues! :D

My roosts are on the same level. The BLA and Uggos usually roost on the side of a nest box. The good news is that no one seemed to have been pooped on.

Here's an interesting thread on how much to plant over on the sister site the Easy Garden:

http://www.theeasygarden.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=32827&p=1

And since gardening was brought up yet again on the MI board dare I plug the MI thread over yonder again, too? I't still going since the revival a couple days ago but I know we can do better! Who gardens for their chickens?

I do, & they seem to like it

I don't eat vegetables or fruit very much so the chickens will be getting the majority of anything I plant. I bought some spinach seeds yesterday and it will be strictly for the chickens. Going to start the seeds in pots.

So far you don't eat sweets, fruits, vegetables. How about grains ? Not much left. My grand ma would have fixed u "Essen Kinder, ESSEN. (SP?)

Bob, tap, chick.

Luther Burbank would [have been] ? proud of you. I am .

Talk about gardening & giant bean plants.....you know spring is coming.

We always plant a garden and it seems to get bigger each year. No need to plant a garden for my chickens because they always help themselves to whatever is in ours.

We have a lrg. field of alfalfa planted to draw the deer in and the chickens always favor that once the novelty of the fresh greens in the garden wears off.
I was thinking of hanging and drying some this fall to put in their run....don't know if they'd like the dry stuff. I gave them soaked alfalfa cubes (ones for horses) early this fall and they turned their little beaks up at it....wouldn't touch it!! Guess if it's not fresh they don't want it.

Spinach is an idea to plant......mine love it.
