My goodness! It's BEAUTIFUL out there this morning. It's more like a summer morning than a spring one; you know, minus the mud.

It is a nice day and I'm headed back out to help my DH finish trimming up the apple trees. I get to pick up twigs.....Yaaaaa! The chickens enjoyed being out & having full run of the yard including nibbling on my bushes & shrubs in the landscaping.

Question: Here's a pic of my Roo & his little girlfriend. I wanted to use it as my avatar & add it to my avatar album but the system wouldn't allow me when I tried to upload it. A box would pop up saying error with some mumble jumble behind it. I can upload a pic in the reply box & post it but can not up load directly to my albums. Has anyone else had this difficulty? I've read & tried everything, it worked previously...I had no problems. Any suggestions / help would be appreciated.

I thought maybe it was cause the size was too big... but I managed to get the image to work as my avitar... Are you using netscape?

Okay, how is that possible when you are further north of me and I'm lucky if I lost 2 inches? Hoping for a much better result today as it is already 46.5. It wasn't that windy for long here, so I suppose that could be the reason.... Still, not fair!

We lost almost 2 foot of snow last night with the warm weather and wind!

I can see dirt in two spots! My boulder and bird bath in the flower bed have reappeared. Hopefully the wind will die down some. I need to clean out the little coop and move Blackberry in as her babies are due to hatch Saturday night.

Summer already? Bad thing - my garden will be full of pesky critters! Sap is running! DW told me I should have tapped around Valentines Day but I nailed it anyway! For anyone looking to watch a pretty good movie - Win Win with Paul Giamatti. Off to collect sap and then get some chickies for the spring freezer camp. Have a wonderful day kids!

I was always told by my Grandmother that pullets get tails before roosters. Also a pullets wing feathers are longer than a roosters.
This always proved 100% for me.

Here's what I learned from the old-timers: Within 48 hours of birth a pullets primary wing feathers will be longer than her secondary. A males will be the same length. Another way is to lay a chick on it's back in your hand and rub it's belly, if the legs go straight up, or forward evenly it's a boy, if one leg curls in and one goes out it's a girl. Another way is to wait and see whcih bird lays eggs - in that case its a girl.

We had more to lose! It's been in the high 40's since last night and we have 20+ mph winds going with some big gusts. It's nice though not too much mud at this point for so much snow leaving.

I'll tell you the same thing I tell everyone on this thread who makes it their mission to be the next Food, Inc. I hope you're putting your money where your mouth is. Farmers are running businesses. Don't like the way the business is run? Don't buy its products. Support the farmers who are doing it the way you'd like it done or they can't keep doing what they're doing.

X 2 Olive. I am right there with you.

babigyrl22 - I have no idea what I am going to do with all these. Just couldn't pass it up. My son wants a few of them. I might raise the Isa's and BSL's to replace some of my laying flock that are older plus I am getting rid of all my EE's seeing I can't sell their eggs. Other than that-who knows LOL
