I use to raise Emu's and Rhea's but never Ostrich. I had a disagreement with an Ostrich one time and the Ostrich won so I stayed away from them things.

It probably wasn't funny at the time but....

No not too funny at the time. SOB scared the bejesus out of me. I smacked it with a T post and cut it's neck but that didn't stop it. Then I thought darn, I killed one of my friends Ostrich ( and that was when they were like thousands of dollars). Well, he shouldn't have went out of state and left me to take care of them !!! But the stupid thing lived and he was never the wiser. Whew.

OK... I know you can eat ostrich. I know there is a lot of meat, and ostrich burgers are yummy. The ostrich I was talking on were those little freaky naked neck chicks that look like ostriches mutatated to look like RaZ super cute uggos and that super adorable (RIP) Beeper.... Those ostriches. I mean, they are coming from Mom who hatches mini ostriches... Sheesh.

What the what???

Checked the tracking on my chicks and they are still in Ohio. Hatched in Ohio and shipped in the morning and still in the same state, ugh!!! I could have driven there and been home by dinner with them but did not do it because the cost of driving was twice as much as shipping them, now I wish I had picked them up.

Bianca - I think the main thing is to make sure you check your local post office day and night because when they arrive someone is supposed to call you but they might not know that or might not be able to reach you, so I would check in with your local p.o. tonight, tomorrow a.m. tomorrow afternoon, tomorrow eve...............

Just to be persnickety this would be kilowatt hours. Amp hours would be watt hours divided by voltage. But it is still correct for calculating the cost as electric companies list stuff by watt hours. Go ahead, smack me.

Check to see what the wattage of the appliance is. Multiply by the number of hours used. Divide by 1000 and you will have the number of amp hours the incubator used. Check your electric bill to see how much you pay per amp hour. Multiply by your amp hour cost by the amp hours used. Equals cost to operate..

Just called the local annex and they have not received any chicks as yet.

Quote: These are both close enough to get a very close answer. In my area (and I think most others) electric utilities calculate consumption in KWH !
