Well it finally happened.
There was a note in my mailbox from the Code Enforcement Officer. Someone called on my hens.
According to the note, I have 5 days to "abate said nuisance"

Looks like I will be heading to court in the near future.

city ordinances make no sense at all. Are you entitled to know who the complainer was?

What!?! Abate said nuisance!?! I have yet to see a hen be a nuisance. Unless you have some manly girls running rampant in everyone's yards, I don't think your girls are a nuisance. From what you've said of them, they're pretty mild mannered and stay close to home.

I'll be rooting for your cause RaZ.
Go get 'em!

I've seen a hen be a nuisance. I have one that makes a bigger ruckus than any rooster could and she does it every single afternoon like clock work.

Good Luck, Raz. At the very least it seems you're going in with eyes wide open.

My hens can be very loud, however my roosters can really get annoying if you have to work in close proximity of them. What irks me are the codes that allow up to X number of dogs, and free range cats but not a chicken, rabbit, or yard duck!

Duckies are five weeks old and outside now! They're so big! The one with a band on in the second picture is a girl (she QUACKS!) who will be kept rather than butchered :D

And here are two hens rockin' their new saddles. The black australorp is a 'favorite' since she just sits there and takes it whenever the roosters want, rather than running away.

My Sandhill chicks arrived this morning. They didn't have any rosecomb colored Dorkings, so he threw in some extras. Check out this chicken math - ordered 25 chicks (RC dorkings and Jaerhons). Paperwork says 19 jaerhons, 10 delawares, 4 red dorkings and 4 black orps. Count of chicks in box - 47

. Now I am not a math whiz but that just doesn't add up, does it? The remaining chicks are a mystery.

guy at MSU said if you get WAY to many chicks they could have a high mortality rate due to an unwanted disease hope they just got your order mixed with some one else

Anybody heard from Mom2Em yet? Wishing her a speedy recovery from her surgery!

I hope she is doing ok too. She is never going to get caught up here when she comes back.

Stacy, your BA looks just like mine, bald head and all. Love the ducks!

Sorry Raz, maybe you should put the uggos in bird cage and bring them in with you to show what a nuisances they are Don't get it, my friends neighbor has about 8 or 10 Gray hounds in a very small yard and they STINK to high heaven in the summer, they have complained repeatedly and the owners claimed they are up for adoption so they let them keep them, Go figure
