guess I will go out and move some plants. was hoping to get that done this weekend. Never enough time

I am going to make a cake, and I am going to use the duck eggs. BUT since my duck eggs are 2x the size of my chicken eggs, the recipe calls for 3 eggs, how many duck eggs should I use? I can use 3... but will it cook right?
I would use 3 duck eggs, but that is just me and I hardly ever follow the rules. I look at a recipe as a set of "suggestions". I always improvise when I cook or bake and I haven't poisoned anyone yet.

Opa has bantam blue orps, if I'm not mistaken.

Alright... found a 2:1 chicken egg/duck egg trans... what ever... I know the word I want... its right there... "spit spit" nope, still can't get it out. But its 1 duck egg for every 2 chicken...

Really? Where'd you find that?

Seems like it would depend on the size of the egg and most duck eggs are not twice what a large chicken egg is (since most recipes call for "large" eggs). A large chicken egg is around 60 grams, most ducks lay eggs that are 65 to 100 grams. Not such a big deal when you're cooking and probably won't make a big difference in a basic cake, but some baking recipes are finicky. Though, none that I plan to tackle anytime soon. LOL!

Do you have a kitchen scale? When I've substituted goose egg I've always just weighed them.

Angela - so hard to lose babies.

I'm not too upset over mine, I didn't have time to get attached yet. My son on the other hand.... I found him outside sitting on the lawn with Boysenberry - the broody, on his lap. He had her in a headlock and she was pecking him. I broke it up and asked him what he thought he was doing. He said he was "talking" to her and she needed to learn a lesson not to kill her babies. I explained she didn't kill them just left them and that she just wasn't ready to be a mom. However that said she had her chance and she is going in a cage tomorrow until she is over this. I will also have to keep an eye on my son.

Miserable day! Too cold and too windy. I didn't do much of anything and now I think I will go cuddle up and read and try ignore the fact the temp is in the 30's again.

I have two new additions to the family to share! Meet Honeysuckle and Dulce de Leche! It was a seven hour drive to get these little gals, but it was totally worth it! They're all settled in nicely, and I'm enjoying a cup of tea after having to wrap up all the apple, cherry, and pear trees to protect the flower buds from the expected freeze tonight. The kids aren't going outside until it warms up, I'm a sucker and I think below freezing is too cold for them in an unheated barn at this point. Dulce was born 3/7, and Honeysuckle was born on 3/16.

Just after pickup!

A better picture of Honeysuckle

Dulce de Leche sleeping on my lap! She is the mellower of the two!

Honeysuckle eventually ran out of energy after running around the backseat!

She was trying to eat the camera here!

Anyone seen this one yet?

A lot of things that happen in this world traumatize me and chickens seem to know how to find trouble and drama more than any other pet I have had.
I can totally see that already! Had the chicks outside for like 8 hours today, they loved it & were causing all sorts of mayhem lol

Ratio? is that the word you were looking for? lol

Spent the whole day outside, between finishing all my painting on the coop and attaching chicken wire over the "windows", and doing laundry (and hanging it out to dry...good day for that here)...Im pretty tired. Feels good to sit down now!
