I'm not too sure I would want to eat spelt myself, but I guess my mom eats it for breakfast. Thanks RaZ.

Ohhh see I used to have a recipe for spelt crackers made with spelt and sour cream/yogurt that tasted just like cheez its.

Spelt has it's wonderful uses.

And thanks Chicken Grandma! The pics of your eggs just makes me want to raise chickens even more. Wow!

WOW! What wind! I was going to try and put my run roof back on today at its angle, but I get it up there, and before I can get on the ladder with the drill to get the first one on, the darn wind takes off with it. If I had 2 more hangs, I could do it. BUT, I am not an octopus, so, I am going to take advantage of another do nothing day!

Ok... I will do something... take some more excedrin. Drink a coffee. Maybe I will clean the stairs. They are rather horrendous looking. I am a firm believer in NOT carpeting stairs. Especially if you live in a bi-level house. Your entry way is at the stairs, so their is no going for nice carpet on stairs in such a location. THINK PEOPLE! UGH! And I bought the house. With carpet on the stairs. Maybe I will put on a dust mask and pull all the carpet off the stair this weekend. Nope... Not yet. Need a nice warm day so I can sand and re-finish/paint them, put on stair guards (?) for traction, or a new runner up the stairs. See I don't mind a runner, but NOT COMPLETE CARPET. You can always untack a runner and hang it and beat it. Well anyway, Maybe I will clean the stairs.

Or I might just vegetate and play angry birds. Drink coffee. Make some home-made mac and cheese with the dreaded spam, the Hawaiian treat meat. HEHEHE

I'll have to dig up my previous recipe (that's on a half dead computer - reason 1263 to put your recipes in a box with index cards) but this seems close:

http://www.thenourishinggourmet.com/2008/02/rich-whole-grain-crackers-2.html

I used bagged spelt flour from the grocery so I think I only let it set for an hour or two if that to absorb the moisture (on humid days I just made the crackers - the flour had all the moisture it was going to have). But it's close. Something about the butter and the yogurt (I used greek) with the texture of the spelt flour makes the whole much greater than the parts.

If you have new milled flour or it's been dry you're going to want to let it sit for longer.

EeyoreD,
Thank-you. Can't wait to try it. My daughter loves crackers, and I'm always looking for healthy alternatives to store bought, overprocessed, junk food.

I've never even heard of spelt before...where can you get it, at any grocery store? Because if they taste just like cheez its, I'm sold! I love cheez its, they are my favorite indulgence. I looked at that recipe you posted, I think I would like to try it.

Cool, cloudy and breezy here today,. And no mowing

Same weather here. DH is just itching to mow . He got a new mower and can't wait to ride it.

I do have some good news today. We are going to be adding to the family. We are getting the goats from babigyrl's friend next week. DH and my daughters are super excited. We are already looking into ways of making goat cheese and mozzarella.

Guess which is is Eggland's Organic egg at $4.39 per dozen and which egg is Snowflake's chickens free range egg?
Hmmmm....let me guess! lol I'm disappointed that my DD didn't have to do a science project this year as my son had to in 5th grade. We were going to do one comparing the pros & cons of farm fresh eggs verses store bought. So bummed they are not doing one. Hopefully they'll do one next year.

When we built our house the guy at the carpet store was bound & determined that I get this high quality indoor/outdoor carpeting for my mudroom & basement steps. I literally asked him if he was nuts. He said it's the way to go, so simple, vacums up in a snap. I told him no way, in you know what, that I wanted that stuff. I said, I live in the country surrounded by fields, ditches, dirt & mud at times. Kids & DH will be in & out constantly, we have a dog, a lot of foot traffic, etc. He was bound to talk me into getting it and basically told me that the linoleum I wanted might put me over my budget range for the flooring that was I trying to stick to. Well he did not know that I did my homework & research well on the pricing and what not. He told me I might not want to dig into my pocket and basically didn't think I could afford it in so many words. By that time I was frustrated & royally ticked off to the max because kept pushing this crap and his last comment. I finally told him It's my pocket and I know how far I can dig into it! Dumb guy.....almost lost a customer.
