Cool, cloudy and breezy here today,. And no mowing

Same weather here. DH is just itching to mow . He got a new mower and can't wait to ride it.

I do have some good news today. We are going to be adding to the family. We are getting the goats from babigyrl's friend next week. DH and my daughters are super excited. We are already looking into ways of making goat cheese and mozzarella.

Guess which is is Eggland's Organic egg at $4.39 per dozen and which egg is Snowflake's chickens free range egg?
Hmmmm....let me guess! lol I'm disappointed that my DD didn't have to do a science project this year as my son had to in 5th grade. We were going to do one comparing the pros & cons of farm fresh eggs verses store bought. So bummed they are not doing one. Hopefully they'll do one next year.

. Maybe I will clean the stairs. They are rather horrendous looking. I am a firm believer in NOT carpeting stairs
When we built our house the guy at the carpet store was bound & determined that I get this high quality indoor/outdoor carpeting for my mudroom & basement steps. I literally asked him if he was nuts. He said it's the way to go, so simple, vacums up in a snap. I told him no way, in you know what, that I wanted that stuff. I said, I live in the country surrounded by fields, ditches, dirt & mud at times. Kids & DH will be in & out constantly, we have a dog, a lot of foot traffic, etc. He was bound to talk me into getting it and basically told me that the linoleum I wanted might put me over my budget range for the flooring that was I trying to stick to. Well he did not know that I did my homework & research well on the pricing and what not. He told me I might not want to dig into my pocket and basically didn't think I could afford it in so many words. By that time I was frustrated & royally ticked off to the max because kept pushing this crap and his last comment. I finally told him It's my pocket and I know how far I can dig into it! Dumb guy.....almost lost a customer.

I have the same feeling about wall paper in bathrooms...

Or people who put heat vents on the ceiling...

Isn't the ceiling where most vents go? What problem to they cause being on the ceiling? Ours in the mudroom bath is on the ceiling but vented out the side of the house?

Spelt is a hexaploid variety of wheat and has gluten. It has been harvested for 1000's of years. Here are some facts:

Nova, I love Spam. I'll eat it right out of the can.

I got rid of my carpet years ago. I put in solid oak flooring in every room. All that is left is the kitchen, but that will wait until school is done. I'm doing a complete demo/rebuild, right down to the studs.

Welcome new folks, you have found a nice chatty place to visit. Just be warned that we can have scores of posts in a matter of hours. I've worn out 2 pair of reading glasses since I joined.

Heat rises, so, when the vents are blowing hot air down from the ceiling... floors stay cold. Lower walk outs with ceiling vents, floors stay freezing. Here at my house, I can put a cup of milk on the ledge that runs along the wall, or even just set it on the coffee table, in my lower level, and it will remain refrigerated... the heat ducts run thru the crawl space in the attic, and even covered with insulation, the floors remain cold. The vents are also on an outside wall in both bedrooms, and they only get warm if I turn on the space heater. The guy who built this house, he was from down south, and thats where they put them... in the ceiling. This is the first house I have ever seen or lived in here that has the heat ducts in the ceiling instead of at floor level.

Heat rises, so putting heating vents in the ceiling makes no logical sense. Perfect place for a/c vents though. Problem is most places can't either fit or afford 2 sets of vents to have a perfect system. So if your HVAC is in the attic so are most of the vents and if your HVAC is in the basement, then they go in the floors or the in the walls along the floor.

I've never even heard of spelt before...where can you get it, at any grocery store? Because if they taste just like cheez its, I'm sold! I love cheez its, they are my favorite indulgence. I looked at that recipe you posted, I think I would like to try it.

Probably not at any grocery store, sadly. But if you have a co-op, Whole Payckeck (er Whole Foods) or other natural foods store they should have it. Online is also an option http://search.kingarthurflour.com/search.jsp?N=0&rt=p&Ntt=spelt

Sadly since it's not widely available it can be expensive. But, because of its texture, it really is my go-to cracker flour unless I'm making something like papadams.

Oh and maybe I should be clear it's more like the White Cheddar Cheez-its that the yellow ones. Still addictive.
