LOL! I hope it makes it for you, Jen.

I am not a huge fan of the white ones; they don't seem to smell as good as the purple ones. I just think every farm needs a lilac bush. And every farm kitchen needs a vase full of the flowers on the counter when they're in season.

It's not your fault, Raz. Some people are born without taste.

Perhaps. But I still have my stunning charisma.

Personally I really like lilacs as well as many other short blossoming plants that seem to herald spring. How can you not love something as short blooming as a forsythia?

If you think about it, people are a lot like those plants. We spend a time developing until we blossom and then a long time in decline. I sure am glad that most folks have chosen to judge me by my leaves and not by my long faded blossom.

Thank you - I don't show and it's been a while since I sold any, due to the bad economy the last few years. The last thing people spend their hard earned money on is art. Totally understandable.

I still keep painting, and hope that one day, the economy will get better and people will want nice art for their homes - dreaming! When I have finished a few more (I work on several at a time) I shall put them up on my website along with my pottery (I didn't mention that).

Wow TC, what ELSE do you do so beautifully? Those are awesome! What is your website, I wanna see! Sadly, you're right about people not spending money on art these days. I sure hope it turns around soon. Do you post prices on your site?

I would rather roll naked in poison ivy than have a lilac in my yard.

Why? I'm rather surprised there is any type of plant you don't like, RaZ.

Well, as long as we're talking about past mistakes, I was married for 4 1/2 years and left with the only thing that mattered to me: my daughter. That was back in 1976 and I decided I'd never do it again. It certainly didn't help that I was 20 and he was 18! Mere children who didn't have a clue about responsibility and commitment. Basically, any time I even thought about marriage after that, I always had to ask myself, "can you roll over and look at him every morning?" The answer was always NO! I know there are some great guys out there, I just never met one I was willing to take that big a chance with again. Been there, done that. Que será será.

I have a lilac like that, but the others I got off my MIL's huge old bush are doing great, till this year when they BUDDED TOO SOON! Got sheets on them again for tonight but it's getting ridiculous. This would have been the first year for lots of blooms, too.

I love lilac bushes, and I have three...three and a half in my yard. The fourth never really took off, so its a wimpy twig type bush.

I had the most beautiful Jap dwarfs. We had to redo the roof over the entry and MT ex brought his dad and BIL to help... They did not protect my shrubbery... Killed 4 boxwoods, 2 arborvitae, and both my dwarfs. I was so angry. They were like, "oh well, its just a bush." Do you know how much I paid for that "just a bush"? $40 a piece. They were the most beautiful lilacs. I was the only person on the block with them... Still makes me angry.

My first forsythia bloomed the other day, just the tip of one branch. I was hoping the other cuttings from the bushes at my mom's would flower this year but I guess they aren't big enough yet. These have to grow, younger sister sold the family home last fall.

When I think about it, I can definitely look at Hal in the morning.

I wonder if he can look at me

If all this screwy weather kills my buds, I'll help you!
LOL I agree... my daughter (well, my mom and my daughter) bought me a lilac bush 3 years ago and this year is the first year since we planted it that I'm going to have flowers!!! I swear if the weather kills the buds I'll...I'll....well...I'll do something!!! LOL

I do have my favourites and there are others that I don't like so much. Lilacs are a plant that I don't care for. I won't begrudge anyone who likes them. They do smell nice when they are in bloom.

I am happy when folks grow plants of any kind and I'll share what I know about growing them to the best of my of knowledge.
