The problem with trying to refute generations of peer-reviewed research with 90 days of uncontrolled data collection is that the latter is most often best written on swiss cheese -- regardless of how contrary the author.

babigyrl22 My frizzle has taken up her sister's role and instead of cuddling in the corner of the coop, stuffed herself in the nest box with her to sleep.
I think that's cute. Mabie you will be lucky and she will brood with her! Then you could split up the chicks.

Here are Mavis (silkie) and Stormy (frizzle) stuffed in the nest box. It would be very cool if they both decided to brood right now. I could put them both in the brooder and present them with babies ....would be so cool.

If she is trying to make a point by putting her trash out in front of your house, I don't get it.

RaZ - I don't know if I would email your brother.
I would tell your mom that if your brother wants to communicate with you then he can have your mail address.
As a student of counseling, I suspect the reason you are hesitating to write is that your mom is telling you second hand, that your brother wants to talk to you.
And you don't know if that is true.
Now if you wanted to contact your brother then you could ask for his email address and email him.
And if he wanted to contact you, he could ask for your email address and contact you.
But the fact that your mom is telling you that he wants to be in contact and giving you his email address is kind of convoluted.......it's dysfunctional.......so I think that is the reason you are hesitating because at your gut level you are wondering what is going on. Is this your mom's idea or your brother's idea?
So I would go back to your mom and tell her to pass your email address to your brother so that he can contact you in a direct way if he chooses to do so.

Unless he did ask for your e-mail address and she did not want to hand it out without your permission, and so said she would give you his and let you know he wanted to talk?

Thanks Opa, I was hoping someone would offer advice.

Switching all to flock raiser is what I was told when asking about feeding two different ages, but the flock raiser does not have as much calcium as the layer feed, so make sure you also offer oyster shell or other calcium supplement that the big girls can get to. From what I have been told, the littles shouldn't be interested in it.

Ugh! Just called to make an appointment with the vet, and he is gone for a week!

I am not sure what to do, do you think this is something I can just keep an eye on for a week?

Raz - Goodness me. Your neighbor is one tiresome woman. She really goes out of her way to get your attention, doesn't she? Is she married? If I were her husband, I would seriously question the motivation behind her attempts to garner your attention.

Juise - Dr. Bennett at the Animal Clinic at 133 28th Street G.R. which is just East of the intersection of 131 and 28th St. exit is usually in on Tuesday and Wed. I would call immediately to see if you can get in. 616- 241-3651. Just tell them you want to bring a chicken in for a swab test. I think they will charge you an office visit and the price of the test also so it would be more pricey but you would get an accurate diagnosis and then good advice.
If you wanted to try to culture yourself, I believe pharmacies carry a swab and living media kit. You could then overnight the samples to M.S.U. Send me a message if you would like the M.S.U. address.
I heard Dr. Fulton at M.S.U. say that you have to swab down the back of the throat and also up on the top of the roof of the mouth to get a good result. That is why chicks cannot be swabbed until they are one week old or large enough to accomodate the size of the swab. Once you start using antibiotics, the testing won't be accurate again until 2 weeks after the antibiotic is stopped. Good luck!

Somebody's playing peek-a-boo! :) a curious young Belgian.

Adorable!!

I'll stick with the non creepy for now.
This is a nautilus I made for BF. He likes sea creatures, especially cephalopods, so I made him a few plush critters over birthdays and holidays.
Creepy is good!!! Or maybe I'm just freaky...lol

I totally agree with this...I think she has a crush on you, and like an elementary school kid, she shows it by being a bully. Either that or her own life is so pathetic she needs to make everyone around here feel bad too.

Had a good time on day 1 of externship yesterday, felt a little useless though. But I think maybe that my day of resume distribution might be paying off, I hope!! I got a call for a job interview at a clinic today!! I'm going to meet with them on Thursday, Im so excited and nervous and I cant wait! I hope it goes well, and I would love to get out of this current job I hate and do something I went to school for! Yay! I really try not to get my hopes up too high but it's so hard...

Also,welcome to all the newbs!

Hello to Shoomy, Wickichickies, and Brethren. You've come to the right place for crazy chicken people. Here you are sure to get all the enabling you will ever need, and we will not look askance at you for being "THAT CHICKEN PERSON". LOL

Juise... I'll call you later...

I got home from work, all my chickenses are hiding out in the bushes. I could not find Veena. She was the only one missing. I looked EVERYWHERE and finally found her in the last place I looked. The not so little littles coop. She's decided it looked nice and cozy to lay an egg. Freaking pain in the butt bird. Now I have a new place to look for eggs.

RaZ, I might consider that your Mom did as Juise suggested, and got his email instead of giving yours to your siblings in an attempt to let you decide if you want to communicate. I personally have a "NO GIVING MY INFORMATION" rule. I would be very ticked off if my mom gave my number or email address to anyone without asking me first. That would be just rude. And for him to contact you by getting your number or email from your mom... well that would be even more rude and rather assuming on his part... Making an a** out of both you and him... So, the ball is in your court if you look at it that way. Just my opinion. Could be a poop opinion... but you got it. Now, where is my two cents?

Glad you had a good first day Sarah.

Brethren, welcome home. Im about an hour and a half south of you in Fremont.
Welcome Wicki and shoomy
HH...love the brooder! I did think about a buddy chick, but FFH didn't have any breeds left that I wanted. Just found homes for my first round of buddy chicks. I put a stuffed toy in there before I left this morning and she snuggled right up to it....hopefully that works for now.
