Morning!! I want to go back to bed as well. I left this place at 9 pm last night, and right back here at 7 am. YUCK. Hopefully my 2nd interview w/that clinic goes well today so I can tell this place to shove it.

Agreed! All my friends have told me I am grandma like and one says I should be Amish. I don't think I would mind.

I have an old spirit I guess. Let's make a village like "The Village" without the creepy 'things we do not speak of' beasts. Oh, and modern medical attention if needed.
Haha, yea, I hear that. Technology is useful, and don't get me wrong I like the internet and I love my playstation, but I would give all that up to live the way the frontier people did. Sounds corny I'm sure, but honestly I love history and I'd rather be living in any other time period in history than the current one we're in. That being said, I agree about medical technology...it would suck to die from a toothache or something, haha! Oh well, I can dream, and I live vicariously through books. :) The Amish have a pretty ideal lifestyle in my opnion, except I'm not really down with the religious part. Nothing against that, just not personally interested in that aspect of it.

We always used to "joke" that you know you waited a day to long to butcher them if their legs start breaking. It was gross and sad.

Wow that's morbid lol...that's kind of like commercial turkeys these days too. They are bred to have such gigantic breast meat that the male turkeys cant even mount the females to breed and they all have to be artificially inseminated. A wild turkey would probably seem puny in comparison (Ive never had one, but would love to).

Thank you Chicken Grandma- I was feeling ignored. I typed out that huge post about the RIRs, and then those three posts..lol.
I made a comment about it too, I thought that was really funny, hehe. And so true.

Woke up to a pipped Am egg, some really pretty blue eggs too - yay!

I'm hoping to have pipping going on by the time I get home!

.
Still waiting to get some eggs for my incubator though. Hubby says he knows someone with chickens running around the yard so will stop and ask if they would share some. Mom seems kind of excited about having chickens. She is not really an animal person, but her kitchen is overly decorated with chickens. I think she is at least intrigued with it, and has come out to help with the coop from time to time. I think it's good for her to look forward to and be excited about something.
If I would have thought of it sooner my parents are headed to TC today. Of course most of mine turn out mixes.

Hopefully my 2nd interview w/that clinic goes well today so I can tell this place to shove it.

Thanks! Yea I need to do something different, these 12 hours shifts at this hellhole are killing me. Plus I want to get away from this field and get into the one I went to school for.

So I was reading everyone's threads about chickenstock because I'm kind of thinking about maybe going, maybe. But what if I'm not gonna be buying or selling anything? Is there a point in going other than buy/sell/trade? Didnt mean that to sound bad if it did, I just wasn't exactly sure and didn't want to show up and there and be like, oh oops. lol

Oh ok. Well maybe I'll see if I can make it then, I'll post over on the attendance thread if I decide for sure. I have my board exams around that time so we'll see...I think the exam is before that though. Maybe I can talk my boyfriend into coming, hehe. The smoked chicken is that good, eh? I wonder what I should bring if I do make it...

It's just fun to meet everyone at chicken stock. The first time I went (I was late) I got to meet a few people. Nice to put faces to names. I'm planning on going with my DSIL this year for the whole day. I'm still interested in getting some silkies (looking for something other than white) and depending on how the d'uucle chicks turn out, I may have a few of them to trade or sell.... and all this uggo talk has me intrigued!

Coffee tastes mighty good this morning.

Nigellas, glad you are so close to where I work, it saves you a trip!

Thanks Taprock. I'm looking for any type of eggs to try in my incubator just to see if it will work. Seems like it would, but my first attempt was a failure. Now that I have made some changes and bought additional thermometers, think I might get a better result. Once I know it works, THEN I will try breeds mom and I want. PM me if you are still willing to offer some and close enough for me to pick up.

I have a 17 qt Presto and it works great. Comes with good directions on how much water to add, how to check the rubber gasket, etc. I can can 7 quarts at a time or more pints because they can stack (I think, I've never really tried stacking pints, at least I can't remember.... dang the memory is going!) They have a 21 or 24 qt can't remember which to be able to stack quarts. There's lots of brands out there, I prefer to get the stainless steel ones not the aluminium which are more prone to warping. I think Wal-mart sells a stainless steel one during canning season, can't remember if it's a Presto or a Mirro. One of the days I'm going to get a 6 qt pressure cooker. I grew up with my mom using one for just about everything, I have a memory of the best pork chops coming out of one of those, but I'd hate to try it and be disappointed as I don't really remember what she did other than throwing in a can of Campbell's chicken and rice soup.

Talking canning - can anyone recommend a pressure canner. I show up at moms to can if I have large amounts or can't do a water bath. But I really want one of my own and have no idea where to find a good one or what to look for. My mom's is ANCIENT!
Dang, I had no idea and it was such a clear night, I would have liked to see that! Binoculars are good for those fast moving objects, I doubt I would have been able to keep up with our telescope.
Went out a few minutes ago and watched the international space station pass overhead - quite a sight, the sky was full of brilliant stars. But cold, we are still getting freezes just about every night. The only flowers out so far are the crocuses here, the rest are smart enough to stay underground for a while longer. Night all

I'm hoping to go, still working out where to spend the night because it's kind of a long trip and this gal likes to drive only while wide awake. And though it's cool to put faces with names I'm afraid as soon as I walk out of the park I won't remember anything. I am terrible at remembering names and faces!
