Netflix has a documentary called Fresh about American farmers and researchers trying to find more efficient systems for growing food... I shall update when I finish watching to let you know if it is worth the watch!
So watched it; learned A LOT!
Did not know that 70% of the corn that is grown in the US is used for feeding cows/pigs/chickens... only 30% of all that is grown is actually consumed by humans! That means if we actually fed cows/chickens what they were meant to eat... grasses/bugs/worms... we would be planting maybe 40% of the crop we grow now!! This makes the soil healthier and would result in less pesticides and fertilizers (If any).
One farmer in Virginia rotates cows, turkey, chickens, and wheat on his land. They all work together to make happy everything!!!
These "farmers" that have turned their farms in to industries are ruining the health of the land, animals, and humans... not to mention breeding super germs. I had no idea that there are sewage lakes from pigs. Toxic and unusable. Full of hormones and antibiotics!
One farmer had to kill his whole lot of pigs after he industrialized... they all had some form of respiratory issues and/ or diarrhea. After he converted back into a more organic farm, he saved $14,000 a year by not using antibiotics to treat the filth he had created among his herd!!!
Makes me angry that people think it is okay to do this and then sell this "product" to the public, and the public is unaware of the toxins they are feeding to their families! This nonsense should be ILLEGAL!!!!
Ahhh! I wish I had more land! What I would do with it...
I guess my almost acre yard will have to do for now... what shall I plant????
