Opa, think I could slip a few 3-4 day olds under her when I recheck the eggs monday? I really think 4 are duds, but I want to give a few more days since she's been kicked out of her nest so many times over the last week...

How long has she been sitting? If the new eggs are more than a day or two from the originals I would advise against it. When the eggs hatch she will either abandon the new eggs or she will stick til they hatch causing undo stress to the hen and possible the first chicks.

That is NOT a shirt buttoned to the wall...hahahahahaha...that is an old TARP that was NAILED to the fence- with those nifty nails that have red caps on them...and HENRY GOOSE thought it needed to be redecorated...so he tried the shred technique,,,,,,

OK, I want THIS one, banty or not! You have got to stop this weird experimental breeding Mom! You're going to create some kind of Jurassic Park in your back yard. First it was ostrich crosses that resulted in velociraptors and now flamingo hybrids???

Sam,

You have been shooting us for quite awhile now in your avatar....

I think you need to be softened a little.

Ready for your very own flamingo-hybrid?

Jen, how far are you from Holland? Why? CUZ I'd LOVE some SS.
ETA: Oh, I see, your near Lansing. Are you going to sell any at Chicken Stock?

I'll have some with me at chickenstock...or if you know someone who goes to rabbit shows I can always do transport through one of them. (I believe there are a few breeders who show in Holland) But yes, I'm hatching out chicks right now...if they'd hurry up...and have a weekly hatch going on right now so will have different ages with me at chickenstock.

Yay Jen, save one or two for me.

I'm sure I'll have two for you! If all goes well I'll have several hatches of silkies and speckleds between now and then. I usually hatch up until June-ish.

Ok...my humidity keeps hopping up to about 70-75 is that ok? I'm having a brain fart here...

my broody hens were over it by the time i put the boxes back in today...then they went all zombie-chicken on me and jumped into the boxes right away LOL

After a damp start to the day it actually was pretty decent to be outside today. I got a few more spring chores done and learned a couple of things:

1) Mallard ducklings like cantaloupe.
2) When ducklings eat cantaloupe, they make that motorboat sound.
3) Ducklings and chickies who ignore each other during the day will bed down together when the sun starts to set.
