Lol! Hey, I can take anyone down, provided you give me enough whiskey!

At least... I'll believe I have won.

Why should we fight it out? You can just have one on each arm....

I have always wanted Hops but know very little and all your talk has made me want them more. Is there a certain variety for around here or do I look for just plain old Hops?
No need to fight, ladies. There is plenty of me to go around.

Hops are easy to grow. There are tons of varieties out there, including one species that is native to Michigan. The nice thing is that even the hybrids / varieties are host plants for butterflies.

Nope, I'm in the northeast corner of the LP and I'm in zone 4b. I think the UP may have a 3 in it somewhere. SO I look for plants that are hardy to 3 and 4. 5s generally die on me s I don't have things like hybrid teas and butterfly bushes.
There exists a banana that is hardy to zone four, and I believe all of Michigan is in zone 5a and 5b. Not 100% on that one, though!

Thank you for the boggy tree suggestions! I am definitely try and plant native trees as much as possible, and it seems like there are plenty that fit the bill!

Today I had a very nice conversation with a lady from the National Advisory Council for Pet Partners or what used to be the Delta Society. She is one of four in the country who has used a bird as a therapy animal. She went over all I would have to do to be certified. One of the requirements is that your animal has to be harnessed and leashed. So my question is have any of you used a harness and leash on a bird? If so I'm looking for some advise or recommendations.

On a totally different topic has anyone forced their chicken to molt? I have a girl who is a year and has not and the rooster damage has added up. I haven't given her an apron because I thought she was going to molt because she stopped laying. But now she has started laying again.

I tried putting a harness meant for a chihuahua sized dog on the rooster in my avatar when he was about 1 1/2 years old - it did not go well. "Bucking Bronco" comes to mind. I think that if you would train a chicken to be used to that sort of a thing since they were younger, maybe put a pretend harness on it so they get used to the feel when they are younger and give it treats so it thinks it is a good thing, it could work.

Don't give up hope.
According to the revised USDA zones, a lot of Michigan has been redefined. I'll have to look for the new zones.

Don't forget that there are micro-zones that support plants that "shouldn't" grow in certain areas. I planted quite a few things at my MIL's house in Atlanta that aren't supposed to be growing there. Some of them made it and some didn't. I think the major factor was the soil condition more than anything. And some TLC for the more sensitive plants.

Also think "container" gardening.

Are you talking Atlanta MI or Atlanta GA? I grew up in Alpena & had a friend in Atlanta so I was there a lot. Love it up there!

Michigan.
MIL had a house right on the 45th parallel on Thunder Bay River. I loved going up there. I spent a lot of time there and surrounding areas.

(Also spent time in Atlanta, GA., but I'll keep it PG)
