juise - He did wash and washed with cold water just like you're supposed to. He's just very sensitive to it and it's pretty bad in that area. He gets it every year somehow and it seems he's become more sensitive as time goes on. We've been round and round the poison ivy merry-go round with him, just seems it's impossible to keep ahead of the curve when he gets more and more sensitive each year and there's no way to avoid it entirely. :( Technically it shouldn't still be spreading now more than a week later, but alas... somehow it is.

Ugh, that sucks, I have that problem, too. Has he tried Technu before? It helps me way more than washing simply with soap and water, and it is good not only when you first get it on you and are trying to get it off, but also to use while you have it. It helps the itching a lot.

For some like myself, it gets into your blood and spreads from there, or at least that was what a doctor told me, maybe he has that problem, too. For most people, it does not actually spread from anywhere, even if you start breaking out in new areas, supposedly those are just places you either got it on later, or, for one reason or another, took longer to react. For me, it can keep spreading for months. I missed 2 months of elementary school once to poison ivy, and it was not fun, almost my entire body was covered.

The first time i got it last year, i didn't know what it was and kept taking benadryl because that's usually what works if i have hives. It ended up going on for a month, then i went into the med center. They just couldn't believe it! It's not supposed to go on that long, or spread, but mine did. I had to take cold showers, the first time i didn't.......won't make that mistake twice!!!

This year it got onto my belly from my hands touching it when i slept, and my face. Quite a few days later, too. Not supposed to happen, but......... I ended up having to sleep with all my affected parts covered up, and treated them with the rubbing alchohol in the morning and the evening, Took a couple weeks for this one to clear, but i didn't catch it quick enough.

eta that i KNOW it was from touching, cause i'm a light sleeper and i knew when i did it somehow and woke up. but wasn't awake enough to actually get out of bed and do something...Yep, it was there in the morning :(

I got it once. Had a small patch on my leg for about two weeks, didn't know what it was. Then BAM! Everywhere. So bad that the Dr.I had to see and get a shot in my keester was worried there might be facial scaring. It was the worse three weeks of my life next to... Well it was the worse.

Freaking a-c...

Seems like he's tried just about everything, but I'll ask him if he's tried Technu specifically.

He's got it in places that there's just no way it got there any way other than spreading. The stuff on his thighs... well, we'll just say it is NEVER exposed other than when he's nekked. LOL! (He's going to KILL me for typing that.)

He slept with his arms covered for the first five days -- wrapped in gauze and then vet wrap -- until it started drying up, so I'm not even sure how it started spreading. Poor guy. And frankly, I'm tired of not even being able to touch my husband. It's like high five him to tell him goodnight and hope there's nothing on his palm. LOL!

Poor guy. While I am rather dubious about its supposed inability to spread on a person, it really shouldn't spread from person to person once the initial oils are off, so you should be able to touch him without fear, lol.

While gasoline may help dissipate the oil, it is also very toxic and can be absorbed through disrupted skin, such as a rash or cut, and through mucous membranes. Any good soap, lathered up really well, will remove the oil just as well.

Probably a lot of what seems to be spreading is actually slower-developing areas, or new exposure from objects such as clothes, shoes or tools. I had an allergic reaction to an antibiotic one time, an outbreak of hives that started 2 weeks after I stopped taking it. I was on steroids for 2 weeks, and antihistamines for 2 months. :(

Yeah.... see. I consider myself a rather adventurous individual, but there are parts of me I really, really would not like to have poison ivy, IYKWIM.

Surprisingly I think it has ALOT to do with breed. The Serama chicks I have now are the friendliest chicks I've ever seen. I incubated our first chickens and they are our friendliest grown chickens, but they all had chick drama (it's after us!!!) going on too. These Serama have no fear of me and if I leave my hand in the brooder they use it for a fun jumping game / perch to see who can be highest. I haven't even started bribing them with treats.

Now back to catching up.... 378 posts.
