I'm going to call around and talk to some other breeders about it. It's a really pretty chick and comes from outstanding lines...so I'd like to use it for breeding. Unfortunately (the way I understand it) with splash you sometimes get the white pigment because of the white color mixed in with the solid color...makes sense. I'm going to try to find out if it's even worth keeping and breeding or if it'll keep popping up if I use it in my flock. I have more chicks hatching out right now...speckled sussex and silkies...so we'll see what happens. Either way the little cutie will hang out here until chickenstock.

Oh man I know!! It was soooo windy on the way to and from Kentucky this past weekend!! About blew me off the highway a few times!!

I missed out on a bunch of posts while I was gone...like 500-some...don't you people have lives?

HH - I had to take mine in, it was all blowing away, hope you keep hold of your panties!

At least I don't have to worry about them ending up in a neighbor's yard. Hopefully I won't have to climb a tree to get them though.

Well right now they are potential silkies. Buff, partridge, blue/black/splash, and a few other colors. I know better then to count my chicks before they are hatched, but so far I have good development at 10+ days. D'uccle eggs are porcelein and mille.

If you have partridge silkies and want to sell a few I will buy them from you at Chickenstock and also some porcelain D'Uccles.

HORSE & SADDLE TALK......right up my ally. I didn't realize so many of you rode or had rode. Did any of you compete?

This is fabulous. What a beautiful bond & trustful understanding between rider & horse....truly amazing! If the bond & trust wasn't there neither would the performance be. I loved how she kept caressing & stroking the neck.
I love all the talk about riding and the differences between the saddles. Like cowboy boots, the saddle also has to fit the rider properly whether it be English or Western. Finding the right saddle can be difficult for each manufactures style vary as to what type of saddle. My DD has hopped on horses with other peoples saddles on and has often commented on how uncomfortable their saddle is and can't see how they can ride in that. Sounds like most of you that ride or have ridden did Western. Well, we're English all the way...hunter/jumper events. Some of the events we go to have Western competing as well and we always enjoy watching.
Someone posted....can't remember who, that if you're scared, nervous or have the fear factor going, the horse will pick up on that and that is absolutely true. If you get on one and think...Oh, I'm gonna fall or it's gonna spook that is exactly what will happen cause the horse will be able to sense your fear through the stiffness & rigidness of your body.....hence making him uncomfortable. Horses have great senses.

One of my favorite quotes in riding is...."If your horse says NO then you either asked the wrong question or asked the question wrong." Don't know who originally said it....lol!!

I did Combined Training - cross country, dressage and jumping. I trained with an ex Olympic Chilean rider back in the 80's (dates me!). But with my American husband, we used to trail ride together western. I bred and trained a couple of Tevis Cup horses (Arabians) but other than that no competition. Although I trained my horses English mostly, I had a couple of Arabians that turned out to be super little cutting horses.

One really essential thing I found when training young riders, is to give them a good horse - the horse can train the rider as much as the rider (a good rider that is) can train a horse.

Hope your daughter does well - it can be super rewarding!

I never had the luck to do more than take a few Western riding lessons. I think 27 is way too late to try competitions against people who have been riding for years.

I am one of those mixed up people that doesn't know what they want to be when they grow up. I'm still trying to decide which way I am going with my biology major.

A FSA loan is looking so tempting right now.

Roxy certainly was an incredible horse. So sad that she had to be put down.

Hi everyone, I'm new to hens AND the board. We are getting our first hens in June and still searching and search for the perfect coop and run to build. Think we have the coop plan just trying to work out details on the run. Hubby is really into this and so are our kids (almost 4 and almost 2) and we have another on the way in August.

We also are into horses We board horses and have 3 of our own. Really miss riding since I am pregnant. Mostly doing Dressage right now.

We are located near Kalamazoo in a small town called Plainwell. Love the country life.
