okay, BANTIES have to go.

my husband said "They are nice looking. Donate them to 4-h"...uh, I think 4-h raises enough of their own..but does anyone have any idea what I can do with them?
In the Freep today, they talked about a farm in St. Clair Township that is for special needs adults.
They are looking for donations. I'm sure they want cash but you never know, they might accept some roos.

Call Larry Collette at (586) 764-4999 or Michelle Magnan at (810) 326-0127.

Cool. What do they eat? Do you feed them the same as chickens, or do you have to get a special food for them? Can you eat their eggs like chicken eggs (I guess I mean, would you want to eat them), and do they lay a lot? Are they a lot more expensive? Sorry I'm suddenly full of questions on this, haha!

I feed them the same things as my chickens, you can eat ANY egg. I don't eat their eggs as they lay only a certain amount at a certain time so I let them set on them. More expensive than chickens to buy but not to keep. I have India Blues, eventually I want to get some white ones.

I am doing alright today. I have a bit of a head ache, that I think is mostly sun related. As in, Been blinded by it. LOL. I took some excedrin. So, just waiting for that to kick in. My knees are achey a bit, but not as bad as they were Sunday. I think having yesterday off and pretty much not doing a dang thing... Planting doesn't count. I only had to stand at the table for that... And turning soil doesn't count, cuz I just dumped that on a tarp, moved it around a bit, threw some chicken nummies in it, and let the chickens do the rest. LOL. SO, fairly lazy yesterday. Tomorrow is going to be a not so lazy day though. ALTHOUGH, I might just say ef it, and go garage sale-ing. Bluff Lakes here, they have this huge garage sale that lasts 2 days starting tomorrow. This sale is so big, they have portalets, and food vendors come. Yeah, that big. Its a more well to do neighborhood. AND, there are a few surrounding subdivisions that take advantage of this sale and have their own neighborhood sales. It is right near the Critter Barn where babigyrl went for the sheep shearing... On Adams between 96th and 88th street in Zeeland... For anyone near who is interested.

Here is Roopert.

I know it is fuzzy, but hey, I am surprised my phone is still working. BUT, look at that chest! He's going to be a nice roaster. I think, maybe stuffed with raisins and apple stuffing... Yum yum

Oooh! Is love to have peafowl. They are so beautiful! I don't think I'm gonna have the room though. I'm already gonna have to pick and choose which ones to keep. My husband said I have to be done building my chicken empire for a while. I just finished my24'x24' run. I want to keep a few of the ameraucanas, blue orps, and Silkies that I'm hatching, so I may have to let a couple of my FBCM's go. I have to check with a friend of mine first, but if she doesn't want them is anybody out there looking to get into FBCM's? I have a 3 year old roo and a 11/2 yr old hen. I have hatched chicks out of.these two, so the roo is still fertile and she still lays 5 days a week. Would make somebody a nice starter pair

Okay banty pictures to see if anyone knows a friend of a friend of a friend who needs some banties in their yard or in their 4-H group..these little buggers were avoiding me like crazy- and I look down, and my cat was following me around..lol.

Anyone heading to Imlay City this weekend for the chicken show???? I will be there with the fam.

I am. I will be there with my dad. We will be selling tshirts and a few birds from our black and red truck. Hope to see you there.

I know a few people who are...I'm heading to Alma for the Fowl Fest show. :) I can't believe they have those two things on the same day!!! ((stomps foot))

I am with you on that. I really wanted to show a few birds at the Fowl Fest, but I am going to wait until the fall show. I wanted to go to both (and still might), but probably just go to Imlay City.

So the plastic tub will not be big enough till they go outside? Then what will I put them in? I can't wait for Chicken Stock to meet everyone.
What I did was put them in a plastic tote until they were about 4 wks. I also only had 6 though, so hope your tub is pretty big! Then at that point, I used our dog's metal crate which was taller and a little bigger floor space; I put some branches in the wires to make a couple perches for them. They were in there about a week before I couldnt stand their messiness anymore! They were moved out there the following weekend since they were all feathered except under their wings.

Free watermelon boxes from Costco!!! I start chicks in a tub then go to the big box. I put hardware cloth around the light and use wire to attach the hardware cloth and lamp to two pvc pipes. I cut slits in the box with a knife and put the pipes through so they ft snugly and overhang so they won't drop through or move. I also have some netting over one side, but when they actually seem close to escaping I'll put screen across the whole thing. With ducklings I've used giant garbage bags or plastic sheeting as a lining for the whole box and then toss the whole mess and replace as needed.

Anyone got any good cough remedies? Besides ODing on cough suppressant (which I've taken, with little difference). I'm coughing my lungs out here, and can't seem to calm it for very long. Mint tea with honey soothed for a few minutes, a hot steamy bathroom made no difference. Going crazy coughing, I'm willing to try anything!
