NO

Opa, I don't believe the gender of the attractive, shirtless farm hand who also cooks, cleans, and rubs feet was specified, you want want to reconsider.

Haha Juise! I think youre right, she didn't specify, even though I never thought of it that way, hehe. Ugh I wish 7 pm would hurry up and get here...I need some entertainment! Sitting on my butt for 12 hours doing nothing but stare at a computer is really boring. At least I have you guys to talk to until I get home.

I'm not old enough to have much of a memory lane, but growing up I must have been one of a dozen kids in school who had to shake their milk before pouring it. We got milk from Grandpa's farm every Sunday, even helped milk the cows on occasion. I didn't know it was raw milk until a couple years ago when I read about what raw milk was and asked Dad if milk from the farm was ever pasteurized. It was just milk to me, and boy did it take forever to break the habit of shaking the jug after Grandpa got rid of his cows and we switched to store bought milk. It took several years before I would even drink store milk without a lot of chocolate syrup, it just didn't taste right on it's own.

Laundry chutes? I've been down one, courtesy of my older sister. The baby was dirty and needed to be washed, so older brother had to go down stairs to catch me, and older sister would put me down the chute so I could be cleaned.

Thankfully, there happened to be a days worth of clothes on the laundry table to break my fall, brother couldn't quite make it up onto the table. We also sent a few cats down the chute to land on the clothes pile, and they'd run right back up the stairs to us to do it all over again.

During remodeling of the basement, we found where the old coal chute used to be. Plenty of little flakes and bits of coal fell out of the wall and ceiling, the chute had long since been removed, but we figured it must have been there because that's the only place we found coal in the house. We also found numerous news papers from 1930's to 1950's in the upstairs of the house, used as insulation for the roof. We preserved as many as we could, some just crumbled when we touched them but a few held together enough to lay between some plastic sheets.

Growing up in an older house was pretty interesting.

I'm bored, too, but that's because I am doing chores. I'll trade you, I could use some sitting on my butt. You, get mopping!

I cannot even imagine trying to establish a working homestead at retirement age.

Several years back I had a conversation with an uncle about something similar, something "I'd love to do if I could". He said the same thing then, "What's holding you back?" I had all kinds of excuses for him and at the time of the conversation I thought all of his rebuttals for my excuses were, of course, quite silly. What a concept. The man had no idea what some of these barriers meant. What an idiot. I didn't have the money, or the time, or the freedom... I have KIDS to take care of. The very thought...

I blew him off, didn't realize it at the time, but he managed to plant a seed. It took a couple weeks, but I finally understood what he was saying. They're just excuses. We all have them. We like to talk about things we'd do "if only..." but we rarely like to admit we're the only thing standing between us and that "if only".
So true! Sometimes at first glace a door doesn't look open but usually if you take the time and energy to give it a kick - doors do open up - it just takes the hard work of making it happen. Your pigs confused me, at first glance I thought you were someone new!

WooHoo!! My hovabator #1588 showed up yesterday! Can't wait to try it out!!
Quick find some eggs!! Baby chicks are just weeks away!

My uncle came and checked out my coop and birds and asked some questions. Hopefully I was helpful and didn't appear as "THE CRAZY CHICKEN LADY".
The rest of the day I have spent on this annoying computer trying to get work done. I have two layouts to get done for our church. Normally quick and easy seems to be taking forever today. The sun is finally shining, but it is again super windy. No progress on the coop.

vjwilmoth darn this HIPPA law because I could tell some wild tales. Age will not be kind to us folks.
???? what is this?
HIPAA : Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (I had the P and A mixed around) Anyway, it's that paper you sign at the Dr's office that regulates the use and disclosure of Protected Health Information. Blah blah blah. Basically it means I can't tell you all the funny stories about "Mr. Smith" because it would be a violation of his privacy. Too bad...some stuff is just too hilarious and outlandish! lol

Ahh yes, I have that same question.

I wish I had an attractive, shirtless farm hand who also cooked and cleaned and rubbed my feet.

Wait, what were we talking about?

Oh my! It just dawned on me why people have that habit of shaking their milk now! I'm 34 so I don't recall a time of a milk man but I do remember shaking my milk as something we just did. Funny how stuff like that sticks through generations.

Growing up in an older house was pretty interesting.
I love old newspapers, especially old ads; they just fascinate me! And yea, growing up in an older house really is cool; I only wish I had been a little older when we moved from my childhood house because even though I'm pretty sure the place was haunted it was still really neat. And small (hence the move). I remember downstairs right across from our furnace was the coal room, it had a door w/the bottom 2 feet cut off (so you could scoop coal) and that room was really scary to a little kid because even though there hadn't been coal in there for years, it was blacker than black in that windowless room (and no lights either). It looked like you were just walking into nothingness going in there. We used to stack wood in there for the furnace that my dad would toss down through the windows, and I hated helping with that chore! Always felt like I'd get trapped in the black and never get out! hehe...I'd love to go back there and check it out but someone lives there (and its apparent they don't take care of the place...doesn't look like anyone painted it since we moved out in 1992). I wonder what the inside looks like now...

Noticed one of the eggs in the bator was cracked last night so I got a quart ziplock, pulled it out, sealed it in the bag and sat it on the back deck to dispose of today. Completely forgot about it. Just looked up and all three dogs were crowded around something just out front, looked closer to see what they were getting into... IT'S THE EGG!!!

This is also the reason why you don't have to tell your boss why you're taking a "sick" day.
