I had such hopes for today. I was going to clean all the carpets, finish spring cleaning the kids' closets, and transport the rest of the compost needed for the corn/squash beds. And then I managed to break my big toe this morning and, as it turns out, your big toe is a rather integral part of your foot. It's taken me the better part of an hour to clean half of the family room rug. Still got the office and two bedrooms left to go. It's going to be a long and rather unproductive day.

Ouch! That seriously sucks, how did you do it?

AI'ing a sow who decided about 1/8 of the way into a flatpack that she didn't want to stand anymore. The toe sucks. The $50 worth of semen on the ground and the potential for $150 of it to be down the drain in the next 24 hours because she's being a witch sucks more.

My kids eat all of our clover flowers... and dandelion flowers.

Is this a healthy habit? LOL

Well I'm back from the birthday party. It was for a 2 yr old, so, boring except for the great food and watching her open her presents because it's hilarious. The cake was really good too. Little kids get so excited about the most ordinary things and when they figure out how fun it is to rip paper, there's no stopping them. Wish the weather was better, I'd like to be doing something productive outside.

Hehe, well, yes Dandelions are packed with calcium, iron, and many other vitamins and minerals. :) Clovers are supposed to be relatively high in protein, and are also good sources of calcium, magnesium, potassium, vitamin C, etc. same as Dandelions. They eat the whole thing. I eat dandelion greens, but I am not really found of the fuzzy textured flowers, lol. Clover flowers are yummy though. The greens on both plants are best tasting young.

Hm, I never would have thought to eat the flowers, but the greens, yes. What do they taste like, are they similar to any other green or veggie? Im curious now, we have a lot of those in our yard, lol.

Every time I would go out the back door the chickens would come running. I oiled the hinges yesterday and now they don't hear me so I can sneak out and watch them. They are quite amusing to watch when they don't know you are there.
The 8 weekers follow the big girls and want to join in but they are still intimidated by the size of the big hens. Other than pushing and shoving when I break out the treats, I can't tell which hen is at the top of the pecking order. Even the ducks hang with the big hens and the little ones except for when they are in the pool.

It's a good day to hang out on the couch with a book.

Had a chance to let the little ones free range for a bit this afternoon....it was their first time. They've been outside but not totally out to roam free. They stuck fairly close to the tractor but were curious to explore.

Now it's off to dinner with family we don't get to see often. Maybe I'll order a dandelion salad!

Don't forget Dandelion and Clover Jellies! Another great, edible use for the flowers.
