Yikes Olive, sorry about your toe!

Just go try them! As long as you don't put anything on your yard obviously.

I am on the very very last book of Sherlock Holmes. I already don't know what to read next.

My clovers taste like goose poo...

Juise, someone else mentioned Pratchett, if you haven't read him he's great fun. Some other authors/Books:

Neil Gaiman (author - with or without Terry Pratchett, his novels or his Sandman "comic" (that series really is deserving of the term Graphic Novel)
Jasper Fforde (author - either the Thursday Next series or the Nursery Crimes one)
The Scarlet Pimpernel books by Baroness Orczy
The Count of Monte Cristo (or pretty much anything by Dumas. Love him.)
Frederick Marryat - author - pretty much the father of seafaring adventure books. You can get his free at Project Gutenberg: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/search/?query=marryat

Hope you find something interesting in there!

You should remedy this affliction immediately. It is satire first, fantasy second.

Congrats, Jen :D

Indeed, the fantasy is really just the framework for some of the most piercing satire ever written. I love Pratchett because his books appeal on a number of levels: The stories themselves, alone, are entertaining. The satire is brilliant. The characters feel real and when you read several of the books they start to feel like old friends. The pop culture/history/literature references are insanely clever. But even if you only pick up on one of those things the books are still fantastic reads.

Each year I find myself picking dandelion blossoms for my middle son. Do you have any idea how long it takes to pick 8 quarts? He uses them to make wine.

I am a voracious reader and it' not unusual for me to read 10 or 12 books each month. I've read everything by James Lee Burke and am currently reading the most current book written by his daughter Alafair.

I've also read everything by John Sanford, JA Jance, David Baldaci, Steve Berry, Steve Hamilton, Tony Hillerman, Dennis Lehane, Lee Child, and several others. I'll pick an author and try to read everything they written in chronological order. The lastest author I'm working on is Terry C. Johnston. He wrote three series of books dealing with different characters and viewpoints of settling the American west.

I also read the Steig Larsson trilogy "The Girl With Dragon Tattoo,The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest, The Girl Who Played With Fire". Definately worth reading all three. A sad note is that he had written all three and had died before they were published.

If you want a really good read check out Nicolas Evans. His "The Horse Whisperer" was great but I like "The Smoke Jumper" even better. The imagery of the west he paints with words would make you believe he had spent his entire live in the mountains of Montana, yet he is an English author.

I love reading, but have been too busy to read a book lately. :( Just BYC. :D

Welcome excitedmichicks!

Olive- Sorry about your toe. Hope that sow does better next time, what breed is she? Gert's and Maisy's tummies are getting bigger each day! We lost one piglet a few days ago, it had just disappeared. We looked everywhere for him. :(

RIRjen- Congrats on the show! They are pretty!

Opa- Great looking tom!

Had a chance to let the little ones free range for a bit this afternoon....it was their first time. They've been outside but not totally out to roam free. They stuck fairly close to the tractor but were curious to explore.

Now it's off to dinner with family we don't get to see often. Maybe I'll order a dandelion salad!

They are all looking really pretty. I hope you are enjoying them.

Olive the only thing about the city are the people invading my space, oh well.

Did anyone go to Fowl Fest today? I did and boy was it ever cold. The chickens were so awesome!! Just beautiful. They were sooooooo big! So many pretty breeds and some just plain silly looking that now I got to get one.

Kimmie

We went. It was super cold. I was kinda bummed that there wasn't as many birds as last years fowlfest. We did buy a chocolate serama cockerel though. I would have love to buy a pair of the really large Light Brahmas, but I didn't have enough money for them.

Hd a good COLD time at the show! :) Hannah and our 2nd place blue pullet! If you look at the card in the background you can see how the #2 looks a little weird...it's because he gave her 1st then changed it :( Oh well, second place is good enough!

Our white cock won his class and then won Reserve Variety!

Our new showgirl cockerel

We also go a blue one

AND, some really awesome news!!! I was sitting in the sale barn and had a sign saying I have speckled sussex and someone asked if I was the one who donated hatching eggs to the raffle last year. I told her I was and she informed me that two of the hens in the show were from those eggs and one of them had won Reserve English!!!

Congrats on your wins. We hope to take some ducks and geese to the next bird show.

Oh! Almost 6 more days until the Emu eggs hatches! :weee

I like to eat dandelion blossoms. :drool But would forget to wipe my mouth after I eat some, and would have yellow stuff on my face. :D

Hi krisrose :D

Jen, that is great!

Juice, if you can find a product called Cat Off, it will get cat urine odor out of anything. It comes in a concentrate that makes quite a lot. You need to saturate the affected area so that it soaks in as deep as the urine. Having trouble finding the spots? Shine a black light around, urine fluoresces a dull yellow.

I've been using a product for years that is very effective for eliminating those nauseating cat odors. It's made by Remington but the one made by Winchester is equally effective.

I have read all of Pratchett and Gaiman, will have to look into some of the others, thanks :)

And thank you Ladyfeather for your list, too. Hey, did you ever see the anime list I put up?

We made dandelion wine once before, it was terrible!!! I think we did something wrong...

Thanks! And Opa, also, for your suggestions as well. So many of those things don't work a bit, or only actually "mask" the smell instead of taking care of the problem. I may actually but one with some assurance of success.
