Hello all,
This seemed like the best place for my first post. Just wanted to say hi to everyone in Michigan, which despite the current economy is the best place to live. My family and I live on a 400 acre centennial farm on the Shiawassee River. Been in the family since 1866. I'm not new to chickens or farming, but recently decided to convert the old shed into a chicken coop so we could have chickens again. I did it for my enjoyment and to benefit my kids.
This is a wonderful forum. I appreciate the diversity among the members. I'm not inclined to treat livestock like children or refer to them as babies or even to name them. However, I don't mind that attitude in others. I'm glad to see that alot of people on here see chickens as a product of something and others see them as members of the family. Doesn't bother me a bit, I'm just glad to see that there is a forum on the internet where everyone isn't preoccupied with flaming the other members and getting into arguments.
This morning I got a call from the post office at 6:30 to tell me that our chicks had arrived. So I had to wake up the kids and pack them off to town so that we could get them all settled in before school. School for me that is. I ordered 15 but got sixteen. That's all right by me, I like free stuff as much as the next guy. When I got home this afternoon I found the cat sitting on the brooder, but it's as tight as Fort Knox. She's not getting in there anytime soon.
Anyway, just wanted to say hi to everyone. I've enjoyed reading what everyone has had to say while I've been lurking.
