That's funny. My last year old bantam hen (in my avi) has taken that up, too. Since she became the lone one we pen her near Neil for company and every morning we can hear him crow with a follow-up from her. She does pretty good at it.

x2 I have a few girls like that and would like to know, too.

vj and fuzzy- what age d'uccle pics are you looking for? I have a pair that are 4 weeks old if you want to see them.

eta- vj, I looked at your link and I agree with the few others that you have 2 boys there. I have one that was somewhat similar in coloring to your black/white if you want to see a pic at how he turned out.

I think we both have 2 1/2 week old d'uccles and I have a 6 1/2 week old pullet but I am curious as to what a rooster looks like at a young age. So yes! Please post pics of your babies so I can see what they look like. I'm going to go take some pictures of mine right now and post them.

Head on it looks like they have little combs developing but so did Waffles...from the side you can't even see them.





Found a pic of Waffles at 2 weeks! I thought for sure she was going to be a boy at this point.

Nothing I have had so far has beaten the Delawares I got from Sandhill preservation. I hatched some out last year with eggs from somewhere else, but they have not performed as well, so I got chicks from sandhill again this year. They are personable and friendly, good foragers, lay a nice large brown egg - and a lot of them- and the boys are big and beefy, and grow quickly for a dual propose bird. I have also had some EE's that were excellent layers, not so much the Ameraucanas I have had.

My BSLs have been wonderful layers, standard sized bird, Broiler has been an egg machine since about 21 weeks old, a 56g brown egg every day. The other one, Broaster is the same size but her eggs are 73-76 g every 2 or 3 days.
The buff orpintons are a bit bigger in the body, lays a light tan egg, 54g usually 5 per week.

Tee- Newton is beautiful! How is he attitude wise? I think I'm going to end up with two EE Roos that were supposed to be pullets. On the d'uccles, looking at my two babies, is this how your male looked or was his comb already bigger? I'm kinda hoping one is a roo but I don't need two!

Oh... Did you see the pics in the link I posted of my two EE? Newton looks just like Buttercup. Grrr! But at least I can see how pretty he might turn out.

The past two days have just been one rotten thing after another!

Today is hatch day for my enormously expensive eggs and nothing!

I know we need the rain, but it is just so dreary today! Off to pout and watch the incubator.
