Teeville... Farmville!!!

"Mom, just come on over and we can play that for real!!!" ... You might blow her mind!

When I was in middle school we had a neighbor that was not much older than me, and he would have his friends over. They would drink and smoke funny things... anyway I was known to them as crazy chicken lady... I always thought it was very amusing to see them wasted petting a chicken

Never understood the point of getting wasted, but enjoy the sport of people watching very much.

Daron...Yay emus!!! Can't wait for pics of those babies!!!

THE EGGS HAVE ARRIVED!!!! Only one was cracked but extras were sent, so no big deal. They get set tomorrow morning!!! Memorial Day is lock down day!!!!

I have heard from friends that a mama fox and 2 kits were seen in Livonia playing in someones front yard. Then today I heard another mama and her 2 kits were seen in Highland! Lots of foxes running around right now. So cute but so sad that they have to be in urban areas... Glad they are not bears...

I'm less than a mile from Hines Park and I have seen 2 fox there. Unfortunately, they were both road kill.
It amazes me that wildlife can adapt to the urban areas.

I may be the odd one here, but I do not mind seeing the predators around. Even the hawk that got 2 of my hens over the winter.

RaZ,

I also enjoy seeing predators, they are an important part of the environment. I take a live and let live attitude towards natural predators (strays are a different story). I look at it as a chess game, I have to try and outsmart, out think and out build a layered defense system for my livestock vs. the predator. The checkmate in the whole game is if I catch one in or with my livestock, my rifle is my final layer of defense and it usually wins.

I don't disagree with anything you have said, EMAW.
One hen I lost had got out from the enclosed run. The chick that I lost on Oester was because the hawk got inside the garage/coop.
I will not shoot a hawk but I have no qualms about shooting a coyote or fox that finds it way into my coop. On the other hand, living in the burbs means that I can not dis-charge a weapon no matter what. At least my sling-shot is quiet.

And can I just say I can't wait to meet those of you going to ChickenStock? I love putting real time faces with names. Yay! I'm going to need an intervention if anyone sees me trying to leave with livestock of any kind. My hubby is starting to think I've lost my mind. I keep telling him we need a name for our mini farm. And we need a name for our big coop. The little one will be The Bantu Shanty. It just makes me laugh.

I'd be a feared to not have a solid floor with the diggers we have round here.

We use a 3' hardware cloth apron.

Sheesh Juise, We are not far from the road either, as you know... BUT the bus drivers demand that the kids be at the road waiting, not waiting inside the house for the bus to stop. SO, yeah. I am thinking of making one for Jace this summer so he'll have it next year if they pick up here. It might be at the corner though... Hmmm....

Bah, we never lived in a house close enough to the road to wait in the house anyway, make the kid stand in the rain, sleet, baking sun, and snow, I hear it's good for you!

Mind you, I missed the bus at least half the time anyway. I walked a lot, lol.

Maybe it's because our hobby causes "chicken pox"?

I wish it did, I have no idea where I am going to find it.

My mom never forgets to ask me about all my animals and then goes into how her farm is doing on Farmville.

Not me, don't be surprised when you hear that I had my throat torn out, because I just run after them. Some day this is going to fail me. Maybe I should pick up a sling shot again.

Holy COW!
I was a hundred posts behind! Spent my morning coffee time catching up.

Did I mention Toes did not make it to Robin? He was either hid by his own accord or he had a fourteen year olds' help...and he sits/sleeps on the ledge to my bathroom window and starts crowing at 4:30???

He will be coming with me to Chickenstock if he makes it that long. May have to send him over to brother in laws...where he can be a tiny banty roo with his large fowl roosters and I will feel real bad.

I HAVE NEWSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS...

We have three fence panels up. Thats it. My husband is taking the slowwwwwwwww tactic of doing it. Dig a hole one day, set the post on another day...put up a panel..so, my neighbors can still spy/see over the back fence. When we were chasing chickens all over the yard to capture to send to my brother in law, one of the guys was out walking his dog along the back fence. So, I gave them eight eggs.

My daughter went to school yesterday and her friend was talking to the guy who lives behind us. SHe didnt recognize him but he kept insisting that she DID know him (that rather creeps me out- but it must be a guy notices girl thing, and my girl is clueless) ..and when he finally told her that he lives behind us, she said, "I have to ask you a question". "Why do you all walk your dog on a chain around the yard instead of let him off leash?" (he is a big pit ) (when she was telling me this story, I was horrified she was going to say that she asked him WHY they stare at our yard and freak her mom out)...He told her that they do not have a gate, but they will get one soon- and then they were going to BUILD A CHICKEN COOP and get themselves some of their own chickens!!!

He said, "Your mom gave us some eggs and they were amazing!!!!:"

Tiff told them that was cool, but they have to be sneaky because chickens are illegal...lol. They had no idea. (thanks Tiff

Sitting here this morning getting ready for what ever is next. I'm not sure what it will be but I will be ready when it shows up.

So disappointed.

Don't think any of the eggs will be hatching. For some reason, the temp dropped a little. Seems that my DS also noticed this. He has been a lot more interested in the eggs as hatch time approached. Quite possible that he had something to do with it, as he admitted to trying to get the incubator to come back on. HAD to open the incubator, so quickly checked the egg that looked like it might have a pip that appeared Sunday morning. Was not a pip. Looked like it had been scratched with something. It did not have this before lockdown. Since there was no pip, candled it. No change since lockdown, 5 days ago. Candled the other 5 eggs. Same thing.

Pretty safe to say, I am still chicken-less.
I don't know what else to do. I will have to re assess again. Need to figure this out, then try again.

Thanks to those who volunteered eggs to me. Wish I could report better results.

On the bright side, there have been no bear sightings since the weekend.
