Fresh - it is hard to add one chicken to a flock. Chickens will attack a new chicken who is not part of your original flock. If you read the last few pages, someone had chickens with holes in the tops of the heads from other chickens. So what you are wanting to do is possible if you get several EE's or Ameraucanas. Your best bet might be to call a hatchery like mypetchicken.com or Townline Hatchery in Zeeland. Then you can get 2-3 chickens and you will most likely get a healthy chick to raise and then add carefully to your flock. That means that after you have raised your new chickens to about the same size as your older chickens, you can put them together out in the yard and let them slowly integrate. But don't just throw them together in the coop and don't throw one chicken in with your existing flock. It will most likely be killed.

Most of us on this thread have disease and parasites in our flocks. My flock had MG which is a respiratory disease that wild birds carry. I can think of 5 of us on here who have that in our flocks. I know about 5 or more people on here that have mentioned that their flocks have had Coccidia which is an incurable intestinal parasite that is in some flocks and in the soil where those chickens are being kept. Some folks on here are constantly fighting mites on their chickens. For you to go to one of our farms and get one chicken means that on that one chicken and on your boots, you might be bringing disease back to your flock. You are better off to get SEVERAL chicks and raise them and CAREFULLY add them to you flock. I am not giving you an easy answer but doing things right is often not easy or fast. Good luck.

OK,

For all you experienced people, if i wanted to paint my trellis with wood stain, would an indoor formula work at all? I've been told it washes off. And supposing i got an outdoor formula, would that stain cement, too? I had originally thought that an oil based stain would do the job, putting a wash of color on and repelling water, but not according to the guys at the store....

I may just end up slapping on some remaining paint i have, just to put something on it, unless i can do this for around $10. I would only need a quart or less to finish this project, counting the cement.
The concrete in question is busted concrete i am thinking about using for stepping stones/ cobblestone effect to make my grassless path not so obvious...

Wow FRESH, kinda harsh. But yes, if you posted about your sons diareah, I am sure several of us could advise you to give the kid some Imodium, and maybe put a pull-up on him in case he don't make it to the water closet. As for the pullets.... Let me humbly apologise for not being able to help you in your venture to find one or a reputable breeder. . Ok... Now that I have my SNARKY side back under control....

Sorry. A lot of us that hang out here don't do a lot of EE. Not to say we don't have them. It'd be good to know if you are looking for a particular egg color. Example, I had 3 EEs, and one laid green, one blue-green, and one pink. I have several pullets that would fit the EE description, but do not know what color eggs they are going to throw yet. BUT, they aren't for sale or trade. Of course, I am sure you don't wanna here this answer... So maybe I should have kept it to myself.

CR! Glad to see you online! How's the ouchy doing? I read that you needed stitches... Wanna be more careful. Super glue is the way to go, less scars...

Hi Amy,
You can call Townline in Zeeland and ask when you can drive over and pick up some more chicks. It is best that you get your chicks from the same source as your first ones because chickens carry a lot of parasites and illnesses and you can reduce your risk of parasites and disease by buying from a hatchery like Townline and then buying your second batch of chickens from the same place. What do you mean by 'I'd like to go smaller'? If you buy more chicks then buy more of the same kind that you have and do it soon. Because chickens pick on each other sometimes severly and if you put one small chicken in with two larger chickens, they are going to peck it badly. So you need to get chickens that are the same type and get them ASAP so they they are as close in age as you can get them. Otherwise you are going to end up with 2 coops and it does not sound like you are in an area where that would be a good idea. Keep us posted! We will all try to help!
Thanks to you and the others who responded.
Yeah... "I'd like to go smaller" isn't quite clear, is it? What I meant was, I'd like to go with a smaller breeder over a huge hatchery. But, you make some good points about parasites. Thanks.

We have a SLW, and Australorp, and the BO. We'll be replacing the BO with another. Are you saying getting a different breed isn't a good idea? I was thinking a BO and another good winter, family friendly, quieter breed, for 4 total chickens. I was considering 2 bantam chicks, and am reading conflicting reports about mixing them w/ standard sized birds. And it looks like sexing bantams isn't done?

I just checked Townline's website, and it looks like they don't have much selection. Is it likely they'd have more variety for a walk in customer?

Thanks again!

wow thanks everybody I haven't even got to read all your posts yet. I was mostly just being silly :p but I really know how to get you folks answer now
peace and love

TSC has what you need, 13 a gallon. Its a paint that's like a stain. I am using it for my coops. Cleans up nice. For wood and concrete.
