Chicken saddles.... my lap hen threw herself upside down, kicked and shrieked, did some weird bowlegged dance..... fell over a few times.... (seriously almost died laughing) Now she acts like it's some kind of royal robe, if her's isn't the best of the bunch, someone's getting picked on! The others took to them without fuss, but are wilder, go figure.

For those looking at using Preen in the garden this year: if you're going to use the organic kind, just an FYI, it's just corn gluten meal. You can probably find it cheaper without the brand name. Also be aware that there is organic Preen and there is regular Preen. Make sure you get the one you want.
Does the corn gluten meal kill grass and pigweed, by chance????? How long would you have to wait before planting?

On green beans, my favorite so far is the provider. Germinates well even in cool temps, has a short time to wait for beans, keeps going until frost, and has pretty pink flowers. Really does have a "buttery" taste if you keep well watered. I like my mutant beans too, i have a few seeds planted from my winter bean plant and am waiting to see if they will be jumbo climbers like their seed parent

fyi, if you see "landreth's stringless", just walk away... can't even boil them ones tender..... bleh

Btw, MOM2, you are not alone in your rooster-itis. I have it too.

all 3 of the mille chicks are roos, and i didn't even pick those ones. One decided to start crowing, at 5 weeks! Well, i'ts not really a crow, just an awful squeak, but he's so proud.... lol. My 2 white EE's from last year turned out to be roos, one of them being the one that ended up being a bird killer. I thought those were pullet's too. Then, if you go back to my first bird purchase, I got mine from TSC before the gates were installed. Yup, half of those sexed pullet's were roos too. The next year they put up the gates, no doubt remembering the chewing DH gave them......

I bet i could pick with my eyes closed and still get roos. ha ha.

I will have to tell DH about this, we have a lot of grass in our garden. It's pretty until halfway through summer, then suddenly shoots up to about 12 inches and falls over.
He planted from pre started flats a week or so ago, so his plant's should be "established"

CGM (and the regular/conventional Preen as well) is a pre-emergent, it doesn't kill established weeds. You can apply it anytime, but it's most effective applied early in the season. You do not want to put it on beds you plan to direct sow in.

This is my showgirl roo that I dyed. He is really a lot brighter than he is in the pictures. Poor thing everyone makes fun of him.
This is one of my modern game pullets.
Beautiful Chickens, I love the pink dye on the showgirl. I love the Modern Game chickens. I got one last year as a chick, but I was afraid to get more because I was told the winters here were too hard on them. I wanted to try it out before I bought more. She has such a great personality! How hard are they to raise shamrock4?

I can hook you up with some Uggos...

No, no no...don't you remember reading that if I come to Chickenstock(which I will) I can't be allowed to leave with anything alive I didn't come with. Lol Unless....no, no I can't.

All this talk about Uggos, Vulture chicken, and semi-featherless birds, why not just make the leap and start raising this breed of chicken developed in Israel

I got nothin' else.

Bee hive painted and set.

That looks cool! It almost makes me think I could have bees. But then my mom would never visit me and I would be sad. She's "deathly" allergic. Like epi pen in 10 minutes or die allergic. So I'll just have to live vicariously through your.

Sam,,,,

that chicken is too much, even for me..even for my love of Uggos, and sphynx (naked) cats, and skinny pigs (naked guinea pigs)..I just couldnt do one that looked like it hopped out of my refrigerator and came back to life.
And that poor sunburned chicken!!!!! You would have to lather it with gravy every day to keep it from burning.
Wonder if it smells like baked chicken on a sunny day?

Nope..I just couldnt do it. Id have to put little t-shirts on it..hey.......

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I have been too scared to say, "Hey I think all my d'uccles are girls"...I mean, come on, this is Mom 2em All- I have rooster disease...

SO, I have been secretly staring at their combs..and saying, "WOW..they are all the same..."

Yesterday, I noticed they are all sort of red..

Do you think that I did it again..and hatched all boys?

That makes me sad. its highly probable..but seriously? Who the heck does that. Besides me, I mean.

SO, I think I have four of the same sex d'uccles.
I think my 4 week old porcelain d'uccles are roos too.

I just wanted one to be a roo. Anyone need a porcelain rooster? Maybe I'll bring him to ChickenStock! I have a sneaking suspicion my Polish is a roo and one of my Silkies too. One of the d'uccles with a super red comb and the polish and Silkie all do that jumping and challenging each other thing.

That's some drama queen you've got there. I wish I could have witnessed that little display!
