Hey all.

I know it's hot outside today. I have been out there working in it all day working on the coop. I am stuck right now though and am hoping someone can help.

Need to make a door for the pop door, and want to make it so that it can slide up and down on the inside of the coop in some sort of track. It will serve as extra predator protection at night as well as making nice and cozy in there on those really cold, windy and blustery winter days. Having trouble picturing it though. Can anyone take pictures of theirs, please, to give me some ideas????? Can't really find pics elsewhere on this site either.

Well, maybe if all I did was search all day long, but work won't wait.

Here is a link to a self-locking poop door that slides. This is currently automatic but I don't see why you could not also make it a manual pull. The caveat is I have not built this but intend to.

worked on the coop today and got a lot done!! Only injured myself one time and didn't fall through the roof. Went to move the ladder and my husband had left the hammer on it...ouch...big ol' goose egg and cut on my head. Oh well, had work to do! Here's some pictures of what we accomplished today!
This is the entry side...we were putting on the new roof here.

Entry side door will go on last and the area that is open will be a window. Roof is on but still needs to be tar-papered and shingled.

Before picture of the floor...or lack there of...that green board was one from the entry side wall that we threw down because otherwise you would fall through the old floor.

It's a little dark...but here's the new floor!!


So that's all that we got done today in between lunch and beverage breaks in the heat. We set up the kiddy pool for the kids and would also jump in a cool down ourselves! Hope everyone else had a nice day!!

Lol, I rather suspect you are the only one who read it, since I didn't get any replies to my questions. I kind of expected that with the length of the post, though I did actually try to make it only the relevant details. I think.

Aiden runs like hell and says, "I didn't do it!" Poured a while smoothie in just one tennis shoe. HAHAHA

Don't you just love that response to questions? My favourites are things like asking, "Kaia, do you know why your sister is crying?" and getting things like "I didn't hit her with this stick!" back. Oh, right then.

Aiden has this old costume fireman hat. He tells me to put it on my head, so I do, and he says, "This won't hurt a bit." He then takes a swing at me with a plastic kids horseshoe stake and clobbers me upside the head.

Good Morning everyone!

Such a busy weekend, I need a weekend to recover from it..but its not to be..time to get ready for a long work week..at least my work has Air Conditioning.
My left foot and lower part of my leg is so swollen it hurts to walk. I have no idea why? I have done NOTHING to make it happen. Normal working in the yard, playing with a toddler, nothing else.

Bianca - This is kind of what I was thinking. Do you know if your DH made the tracks on the side? It is kind of hard to see exactly how the track is made or what it is made of. Could you possibly take a closer picture of it?

EMAW - Thanks for providing that link! I definitely am not going to be making mine electronic (that is not one of my skills!) but maybe incorporate a non electronic version.

What a refreshing morning it is! My rooster Shelby was practicing his crow first thing when I let them out into the pen. A few weeks ago it sounded like a broken fog horn. Now his crow sounds like a broken Kazoo! lol

Awake, but not very. After the storms rolled through last night, which I can't sleep through, I was thinking my little coop hasn't been through a rain yet and hoped there were no leaks. I keep thinking about it and finally about 1:30 I went and checked on them so I could sleep. Everyone was fine and I got that funny sleepy chicken look when the flashlight shone on them. Obviously the rain didn't affect their sleep.

Plan is today to plant the garden. I was hoping for rain so I didn't need to soak it down first. I also have to find some tomato and pepper plants because mine look horrible this year. Unfortunately I had some that are hard to find so I might just be out of luck for them this year.

Off to drink my coffee and read for a while and hopefully wake up completely.
