Not a fan of butchering, but I am getting better at it. I decided to off one of the drakes so we could have it for dinner on Sunday, since my grandmother is here visiting. I think she'll appreciate home raised duck for dinner!

Before long I am going to have a bunch of cockerels to do it. Of all the chicks I've hatched recently, only two are female (one Araucana, one olive egger). I chose one keeper cockerel, but the rest are just excess boys. All I wanted were a few new pullets D:

And in my rush to be a smart alek with Raz I lost my quotes.

Raz, you just never stop, do you. When do you find time for beer?

And just for good measure, my hives (I was a bit more liberal with the paint job than some seem to be. But it was fun to do)

1) Serves you right!

2) I stop when I run out of beer.
3) So do you have the supers painted to match?

I have the first coat of primer on the new hive. It dries within an hour, so 1 more coat of primer and then the final colour. I think this one will be light blue. (I'm using left over paint)

With all these projects, I need to clone myself.
TWO RaZs?

When I got home I didn't have the onions........UGH!

Too bad you're not closer, I forgot I bought some and bought some more... If Meijer is out, I know I saw some at Menards, if you have one around you. Otherwise, I would call around. Assuredly if Meijer and Menards have them, then planty places have them as well.

I LOVE trains!

Nice hives.

Love all the pictures, I am trying to decide what to do with my day... I should probably get all the rest of the trees parts and branches out of the middle of the driveway, but... that just really doesn't sound like fun. Plus I am sure that is where the black widow on the door came from, and I carried those things all over the place, it gives me the hebejebes.

Why stop with just two? Can you imagine a half dozen of me?
But not to worry, when they made me, they broke the mould.

Second coat of primer is on the new hive and I tilled the north border bed and put up a new flag.

I put up a new all-weather flag each year on Memorial Day weekend. It occurred to me that mine is the only house in the area flying the American flag.

I borrowed the neighbors push mower... Much smaller mower than mine... WHEW! I am still not done with the front yard. I had to come in and get a drink and take a break.

Then its off to the backyard to do a clean out of the ducks Goop-de-Ville. I swear, they can projectile poo! I'll tell you what, If I had been the one to build this thing, I would have tile/linoleum-ed the walls also. Would make for a much easier time of it. Maybe I will go an find one of the pressure washer doo-dads that you can use on a regular hose... BUT, that'll be fun... yup... LOVE cleaning the duck coop... The only time they leave me alone is when I am cleaning the coop. HAHA. Otherwise they are trying to eat my pants, toes, legs, fingers if my hands are down. I really am going to miss those girls... But I am not going to miss the feed bill. HEHE.

I love the colorful beehives. So much nicer to look at than plain old boring boxes. I almost bought paint today to paint pictures on my coop, but decided I had better not do that yet. I have to much to do that NEEDS to be done first. I am looking at EXPANSION of the big coop off the back so... I am going to put the wood I have to work on that, hoping to be able to get at the very least 3x4 box... Something along those line. I know... wouldn't hold many right? Um... Wrong... Considering that it will have an area on the bottom that will increase the floor size of the summer coop that will be converted later into winter ready... But be ONE MASSIVE COOP... Well, there will be plenty of get out of the way space and what not.

The yesmeaties keep escaping today. I gave them a bigger area.. found another peice of plastic poultry fence and added it to... guess I didn't pay attention to the gap I left on the bottom of one of the peices when I stuck it together. OOPS. Nothing like 5 fat little white chicks running around... If Mel Gibson had already bit the bullet, I'd say they were his re-incarnate self running around screaming "FREEDOM!"

Well anyway.. guess I will go back to work now...

Well, Nova, I'm getting ready for the colour coat on the new bee hive. I have a pale sea green, light sky blue and pink. Which colour do you think will compliment the lavender of the first hive? I thought I had some pale sunshine yellow but I can't find it.
