Hey everybody just wanted to stop in give a quick update and say thanks for all the good info a couple weeks ago! To refresh your memory I asked for help finding a young EE hen, when i didn't get a response as fast as i liked I made a insensitive comment that some people did not think was funny at all and I do apologies.

And I did get my new EE and she is very cool! A little older then I wanted, 1yr and shes pretty bossy to the younger hens that are 17 weeks "i totally expected that" its been a little over a week and she wont let them sleep on the roost with her, poor girls been sleeping in the nesting boxes. She is very well trained and hangs around us if we are anywhere in the yard. she comes runnin that silly excited chicken run if she see's me thinkin shes gonna get a treat lol

LOL! OMG! Believe it or not, I was just thinking of you, Fresh! I was afraid we ran you off permanently. Glad to see we didn't. Anyway! Turk is a very pretty hen. It sure doesn't take long to get bit by the chicken bug either. ESPECIALLY if you are in it for the pet side of it. Nice coops and chickies!

Aaaand, after a long weekend, the coop is a LOT closer to being done! The run is framed in, and now I just need to get the fence attached. DH can finish trimming the interior and I'll paint it after. Need to figure out how to complete the exterior though. We ran out of siding, and it's special-order. Hmmmm.
Very nice

Nice coops too!

Gladahmae - our chickens just loved hanging out under bushes and trees. Don't know if you could move that set up closer to a tree or plant some bushes near by but mine liked that.
They used to get under bushes and dustbathe in the shade. Coop and run are lovely!

LOL! NO, I have unlimited nation wide calling... including international, of canada and mexico. SO, I called him. Maybe he was just being nice on my dime is what your saying?
I don't think I like some guy from 3000 miles away trying to rustle my Michigan ladies.

A girl I work with got harrassed by the township about her chickens last year, BUT there was a loophole in their ordinance, and they ended up not being able to force her to get rid of them. Plus, I LOT of people started attending meetings about having backyard chickens, especially when her story hit the newspaper.

Regarding combining chicks.....I just put my month-old wyandottes in with my week old bunch and have had no issues.

And oh, wise chicken owners. Looking at my picture, give me some ideas about shade and wind protection. I'm planning on getting a mesh tarp or something similar to put over the top of the run (over the fencing that still needs attached) to provide shade, but we get a LOT of wind. We nearish to the Lk MI shoreline, and on top of a hill, on the west edge of a field....you get the idea. I'm planning on putting some zinnias, hollyhocks, and sunflowers around the run as well, and add in some smaller shrubs as they get clearanced out, but what should I do until those get big enough to actually provide wind-protection? Or do I just need to not worry about it?

Awesome coop and run! I need to paint my "Chicken Shack", so little time.
