I got a case for ya'll to solve! So get your deerstalker and pipe out!

I got a WHITE egg this morning. Not such a light blue that it appears white. Or so lightly tinted brown it is white. White! Like, if I put it on a piece of printer paper, it matches, white.

The suspects: Four Araucanas hens, Two Black Copper Marans hens, One Black Austalorp hen, one olive egger pullet (Araucana x BCM), and one young Araucana pullet.

My cuckoo Araucana and the Austalorp both laid a normal colored egg yesterday. The two Marans are busied with motherly business, one with chicks, one hoping wooden eggs become chicks. That leaves the three Araucana hens and the pullets. Two of the Araucana hens both finished a stint in the broody buster. One has never been broody, but has either been hiding her eggs, or not laying.

So who done it?

Oh, so I can catch the culprit red vented, I am setting up my game camera on the nest boxes, once I get fresh batteries.

erinlee, do you get the Hi lites? There are some Amish that advertise in there that will do the butchering.

Welcome to all the newbies.

Nova, sorry for your loss.

I have been busy helping DH with the brooder boxes and trying to finishing a couple of sewing projects. The brooder boxes are really looking nice...better than mine.

Nova, that's horrible!

sneakly littlle b*********** must have been scoping you out for a while, finding a weak spot where you had it pushed against a wall. :(

Too bad you don't have one of those dog proof tube traps opa was talking about, you just put a marshmallow in there.

wow, the board really broke out the Astrix for that one!! LOL!

Opa - did you catch any fish? I'm thinking of doing some fishing this weekend.

I'm pretty much brain dead tired today, got nothing to say. Other than hope all is going well (or improves from here on out) for everyone. Have a great weekend!

We got a live trap. Haven't used it since when I first got chickens, and something tried to get into the first coop I built. I took into consideration what everyone had said bout pred proofing, went so far as to put wire across the whole bottom of the little run area. Nothing was able to get into that one. Well anyway, so we have a trap to get the little sucker.

Fishing was pretty much a bust. Caught a 1/2 dozen or so but since they were in a live basket and unharmed I released them. Marked several concentrations of fish but the wind wouldn't allow us to stay on top of them.

Spend an inordinate amount of time untangling bird nest from the reel Hope tried using. Somehow she managed to snarl the line on three different reels. Some more than once. I think I am going to have to spend some time having her practice.

Still it was nice to get out on the lake and forget about all that is going on in our lives, if only for a few hours.

Nah, i did it so the board didn't have to..........trying to be good. no nice words for that, though.

Well, one of my friend's had a trailer fire yesterday, lost everything. Red cross is helping them, and a bunch of other people. It's not "for sure" but 30 minutes before their back porch burst into flames kids had been lighting off fireworks in the community lot behind their home, no mention of parents being present. We haven't been getting any of the rain here for weeks, so the grass is nothing but dead stubble. Be careful with the fireworks this year, guys.

I found a color i didn't know existed, i wonder if this is what my mystery chick was going to be?

Oh, that is sad. I hope they have ins to help cover replacement costs...

That is one pretty rooster.

Btw, i have never heard of a problem with Randy's chicks. I have seen his setup too, and it looks good.
Only thing i can think is maybe those chicks were bought through one of the auctions, i have seen a lot of really sick birds pass through the auction. Very easy to bring some kind of bug home with you, in a place like that . (especially if an adult was bought at the same time from the auction) His chicks are sold from a shoebox, but the auction cages don't look like they ever get sterilized. :( It is what it is.
I don't see any issues with buying directly from him, the cs will be a clean environment and everyone here takes care to keep it that way.
