Well... looks like we have a smart coon. it tiipped and turned the darn trap. managed to still eat all the meat off the bone... did not get caught. the trap is about 15 feet where i left it, at the head of the path to the woods. i left it about 10 feet behind the meat coop. oh.. the bone is the only thing trapped...

Now what do i do?

Im pretty sure peahens would send the entire police force here..

Years ago, neighbors called on me when I had four hens...and two guinea keets-
never planned on keeping the guineas, they were going to my brother in laws...

On the other hand-

peahens just might sound like an every day woman scream around here in this neighborhood and maybe nobody would even call....
The peahens don't sound nowhere near bad as the peacock. They are loud. It is a pretty sound ( to me anyway ) but loud and tiring. LOL

Oh I know, maybe we can send some Raz's way and he can perch them up on the fence toward Crabby's house and let them yell. And then he can tell Crabby " you didn't want me to have chickens, as quiet as they are, so I got these instead." That would be too funny.

Our Roost - Hi neighbor in Freesoil! I'm across US31 in Grant twp. We're just finishing our coop and are on the lookout for some young hens/pullets. If you know of anyone nearby who wants to sell a few please let me know. I'd highly appreciate it!
Not too picky about breed, friendly future egg layers are all we want.

Has anyone seen my staple gun?
My husband always gives me a hard time because I STINK at putting it away...though I do truly appreciate that it is always where it belongs when I want it.

Well, its not there.

I looked everywhere. And I need it.
I do that too started to spray paint handles with orange paint

I am pretty sure Opa has mentioned using lyme in his coop before? some one did any how so I am pretty sure it is OK
M2M - I have something better for you than turkeys, so you might want to re-think this uggo thing. Instead of turkey I have 2 peahens sitting on eggs. Yup, you just might need a pair of them hahahaha. Wouldn't your neighbors love you then when they shrieked ?

had a bunch of quotes to respond to last night, darn computer was being difficult and wouldn't allow it; now I forgot

Nova sooo sorry about you chicks. darn critters are all over the place.... a lot of people loosing chickens this year to coons,

loved all the pics of babys,, hope those in the fire are able to get resettled soon. prayers for them

any one have any good home remady for poison ivy,,,, we were processing some meaties the other day and when DH went to get one out of the box it got away from him, ran out of the barn and into the brush,, didn't go after it cause I was sure it would come back by evening,,, this was around noon, when it still wasn't back by 7or8 we went looking for it DH spotted it but he was elusive, so I got a hen and got her to make some noise and eventually he came in. BUT I picked up some poison ivy some place....doesn't itch but I'm sure that is what it is,what a fun day that was

I am heading out to get fresh wood chips because I havent done that yet this year HOWEVER...

my husband told me to pick up a few bags of lyme and spread that around first.
Lime just temporary changes the soil surface pH. Adding lime for pest control is an old wives tale.

I love hearing the shriek of pea fowl.

Much better than the barking dogs at 4:30 this morning. Although I did hear my SLW trying to crow at sun-up.

I really do too. Especially the Peacock. He is soooo loud and awesome I believe. When he spreads his tail he is just gorgeous. His tail is at least 6 feet long.

My DH really knows how to freak me out. Last night when I got out of work he said something and it immediately made me say "What happened to the chicks." Well, they PUT THEMSELVES IN for the night! FINALLY! We've been having to catch them for a week now, which included someone having to crawl under the coop to grab them. YAY!!! No more crawling through chicken poop! I'm also resigning myself to having a roo. I'm 90% sure after looking at a LOT of pictures. Of course, this is exactly my luck. They guy I got 'it' from ordered the hatchery-choice pullet mix from Townline. I got 2 chicks from his mix of 50 or 100. And one of them is probably a boy. Whoever said yesterday (or Thursday maybe?) that Townline must have someone new sexing the wyandottes could be on to something. Fortunately, I think my lil GLW is quite lovely and I'm willing to keep it regardless of gender as long as it behaves. Of course, now I want to get a few more so I can hatch my own, in their own little pen, and get maybe an EE to replace this one in the egg pen.

do you really think that a fox would kill a fawn and can it?

Foxes generally refrain from canning, what with the lack of opposable thumbs and access to mason jars.

I always wanted a pair of India Blues... until I heard them shrieking at VanAtta's Nursery one day, then I had second thoughts. LOL!

You can secure the trap between a couple of concrete blocks. Or pound in a T-post and zip tie it tight to the post so it can't be moved.
