We just got hammered, now it's raining nice and steady. Thank God for the new roof 2 weeks ago

Muskegon got blasted this morning! In the last few days we have gotten much needed water! I just hope the weather can start being a tad more consistent.

With the rain coming down, reading is the only endeavor that makes much sense to me. In the book I'm currently reading the protagonist speaks about a veterinarian who has a taxidermy shop in one half of his building and the vet clinic in the other. He has a single sign to advertise both that is probably on of the best signs I've hear of. "Either way you get your dog back"

That is sick and wrong but oh so funny

When I had my buisness I never had anyone ask to mount a pet. It was probably because they were mostly bear hunters and such. I saw on TV they have a "reality show" about people that only mount pets - some kind of extreme taxiidermy?

It's so nice out there after that storm rolled through this morning, I've got my office window open and there's a Tom Turkey down in the woods gobbling. Almost makes me miss the Narrs. Almost.

RaZ - that seems like a pretty positive article. I was not sure about the 40 ft. that they mentioned. Is that from Crabby's house to the coop? What did they mean 'in addition to the lot line'? My lot is 100 ft wide so I guess my coop under those circumstances would need to be about in the center of my yard.
This city manager we have is a real horse's... Well anyway, when the city was incorporated, it was laid out in half acre plots or better just so people could have gardens and chickens. Then plots were divided to a small as 35 feet wide. So they site the 40' rule when they want to enact some silly ordinance. They did the same thing with bees.
What I found silly was the 10 square foot per chicken comment. This same guy wants the coops to be on concrete slabs and has never heard of a chicken tractor.

We just started getting the rain. It got so dark that the street lights came on. I think the couch and a book are calling out to me. No wood working as I still haven't got the garage cleared out to get to the tools. Slobitis has me in it's foul grip and my procrastination has flared up.

Goodness! Just got caught up on about 200 posts! Those were just for the weekend, I gave up on the ~1000 that I have missed over the last couple of weeks. We have been working like crazy people getting our house ready to sell. Bittersweet...finished all those projects that we hadn't actually gotten around to and now won't get to enjoy the fruits of our labor, but happy to be moving to the farm.

Just got a torrential downpour. Of course on the day that there is laundry on the line and someone coming to look at a convertible we have for sale

Not sure how much will actually soak in, the ground is so dry I am afraid most will probably run off.

Getting excited for chickenstock!!! Still haven't made a decision on what to bring. It doesn't sound like it is going to be scorching hot so could actually do something that needs to be in the cooler. Gaahhh!!! To many decisions!

Decided to show off my 11 week old chickens. I start snapping photos and one of my Blue Andalusian hens decides to get in the way to take a closer look at me.

So I head to the other side and then another BA hen decides she wants to see what's going on.

And somewhere I read these birds are flighty and skittish. Couldn't tell that by these two.

I managed to get one so-so photo of some of the flock. They really didn't want to cooperate and show their best sides, they were more interested in the grass outside the fence and the grass I tossed onto the ground.

Look at the size of those Golden Buff males! They're going to make a nice meat bird I think. Almost a shame not to keep one but I've got other roos I'm already keeping from the BAs and some of the 2 week old chicks in the brooder. I'm hoping the hens will be laying some eggs in a few weeks, I've missed fresh eggs and the cackling and crowing. At least one of the BA roos has learned to crow, sort of a 3 syllable question so far. Haven't heard a peep out of the big GB roos.

Anyone want a splash Blue Andalusian roo? I've got 2 and am not planning on keeping either. They'll be dinner otherwise. That's one with the gray legs next to the GB roo.

PM me if you do, I'm bringing a couple of the BA roos to one lucky Michigander next Saturday. I'm sure I could squeeze another into the cage. (Don't worry, it's not that tight a squeeze)

Okay Opa, I can bring you one.

Was anyone else interested in one of the Duke dog proof traps? Catches you a live coon that you'll have to dispatch the next day. It's uninjured, just gets its hand caught in the cookie jar so to speak. The setter we're talking about is a lever that makes setting the trap easier. DH showed me how he sets the trap without one. I can't do it, I can barely budge it an 1/8th of an inch.

Just let me know by Friday please.

I could use a setter, might make setting easier for my old body.
