I took a walk this morning and didn't find my missing bird.

The whole line of rain headed for us disappeared during the night. DH has been home two days with a swollen eye. Yesterday he went to the doctor about noon. They prescribed meds. He ened up at every pharmacy in town with none available. So he had to go to the other side of the state (it's narrower up here) and in that town they only had half the prescription. So he didn't start the meds until last night when he got home. He still is swollen today so he is home again and off to town to get the rest of the meds. While he is home I'm going to get him to help me put up the tarp over part of the run for shade.

Also if anyone is good at telling sex on a Sizzle or Showgirl I need some help. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/679845/girl-boy-on-showgirl-and-sizzle

You know, I was sure I must have had something to say, at least I thought so when I went to bed last night but it's long gone now. I blame it on the heat and humidity, had an awful time sleeping last night. DH keeps the bedroom door shut because he doesn't want Luna or Ziggy in the room and the window was shut because of the humidity and all we have in there is a small fan so it was stifling in there. Should have just slept on the couch with the dogs.

It hit 97.3 up here in Barton City yesterday! Low was 67, low is usually in the 50s even in July. Dh says he'll try recharging the window a/c in the living room. It's 5 years old and not doing too well blowing cold air. Hope he succeeds.

And I need to cal DH something else. I'll use Hal. He likes to remain anonymous, at least till be "knows" people. Too bad he won't come to Chickenstock. Then again, he may decide you're all nuts and a bad influence

especially if I came home with an uggo.

Going to be a busy mornin'. Took the chickens out of their bath and after they quit dripping they'll go in the smoker. Then it off for berry picking. Hopefully I'll be finished before Granny gets up. Since Hope must go help her son with the twins Granny will get drafted to help with making the raspberry freezer jam. Actually keeping her from helping would be next to impossible. Being busy and then at the end of the day being able to sit back and look at the results of your efforts makes for a good day.
sounds yummy

Ok...
We've had a few family loses, several bird loses to coons, me and VJs mom most recently. Raz is still working on his menagerie, recently adding a skunk! And several more mallards. Mom2's Dh had a nail stuck in his foot, had to spend several days in the hospital getting abused. Olive lost most oh her garden tto critters that end in ole. And the puppy who got the mole. Been a lot of plant swap planning....lots of hatching. Mom is uggo-less... For the moment... RaZ city council is deciding on the chicken issue. Um... Butterflies... New members.... Chickenstock count down... Fuzzy may have finally beat the bumble foot... Juise's chicks test came back negative.... Hmmmm... I am sure there is more that I could come up with... Aside from people threatening other people with chickens, the ugly ones that is, and the general bs-ing... Getting mouthy.... But, this is edited broad spectrum from the last few weeks... Lol. Sorry, my brain is to fried from the heat.

So excited I think I figured out what six of my chicks are Barnevelder here's a pic
love the chicks!!
My little coop was full of little flies tonight, not blackflys, much smaller but they were biting me. They were crawling all over the chickens. I don't know what to do for them now. They must just come out at night because I haven't noticed them any other time but tonight I was out there after dark.
sorry about your lost chick!!!,,,we have been battling those buggers all spring they are nasty, really bad by the meat birds,,,from what I have read they like the wet ground, so I am trying to move the tractors farther away each time I spray, meat birds free range but in this heat that amounts to sitting in the shade

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone at chickenstock this weekend.

I've been having issues with a raccoon enjoying chicken nuggets for dinner. I feel bad, though, the local kids had named her (and their mom is really upset with me) - Sheba was a prominent member of the neighborhood, known for eating cat food left out on the porch (WHY??? WHY DO PEOPLE DO THAT?) and getting into trash. I lost 7 birds in 3 days, though, middle of the afternoon, and it was only a matter of time before she got the rest of them. She dug into the pen and killed three while I was in the yard, not even 50 feet away - she had no fear whatsoever of humans or dogs. By the time the birds started making noise and I ran over, she'd made a nice pile of two of them and was scooting off through the woods with the third. *sigh* predator control is my least favorite part of chicken keeping. I just hate being the bad guy in the neighborhood, killing the local wildlife that everyone else enjoys watching and leaving food out for. Apparently I'm the only one who hated it when she got in my garage, too, or scattered trash all over the street on garbage day.

For the time being, I've lined the inside and outside of the run fence with bricks to try to discourage digging. We're planning a new coop for later this summer, so I don't really want to invest a whole lot of money into completely redoing this one, but I will if I can't keep the critters out and birds safe. I've had chickens for three years, and in this coop for nearly a year, and this is my first issue with predation. (we did have an egg thief coon in our very first coop, though. We set a live trap, and my husband went to check on it a few hours later. He came in the house and said "we have a situation." - I went out to see, and found two birds trapped and the coon asleep a nest box. oops!)

One last time - I have a mature, healthy, gentle, de-spurred, Buff Brahma rooster that needs a new home. He's free. If you live anywhere near Muskegon you can pick him up.

I think your best solution would be to located a trap where it wouldn't be visible to the neighbors. Then when you catch the critter dispose of it and don't say a word. Then you will also have a name for it................GONE.

I need to get stuff ready for CS. I have about 20 golden willows already rooted and potted with a few still in water. I need to dig up and pot some hops and we shall see what else I can get. I think I'm out of pots now, but I will scrounge about in the garage.

I need to get the truck cleaned out and make room for stuff. Today might be a good day for it. So much to do and not enough time to do it all. How did I fall so far behind?

Good advice Opa!

I wish I could meet you all at Chickenstock but I will be with my children at the grandparents home. (my deceased husband's parents).
We booked our trip last Sept. and could not change it.

I'd appreciate prayers for safe travels and I hope you all take lots of photos!
