Ya we have 2 that are real old and will be here until they die. I do have like 3 sheep that are wool sheep but I don't breed them. All my other stock is hair sheep. Not good if you want wool hahahaha

Well, shoot! Definitely want wool.

Quote: I have no idea why you would post it in the local grainery.

However, as it is a BYC event, and paid for either by the members, or some of the members, it should be limited to BYC members. No, it doesn't have to be on a private property. Think about it - you can have weddings and private picnics in parks and other public places. Most of these places require some form of payment, so in a sense it is a private party. It doesn't mean "anyone" can attend. I find it rude to "crash" someone's bash, especially if you don't bring anything or contribute to the "jar".

Are you the new people who just moved in two doors down from me? *grin* they have a roo that I hear once in a while, and the neighbor between us is hm... guano-loco (to put it nicely) She called me at midnight one night because there was a clicking noise coming from my house and it was keeping her cat awake. So, I got out of bed, went outside in nothing but a bathrobe (it was 40 degrees and raining) and proceeded to tell her (politely, even!) that there was no clicking noise coming from my house. She came out on her front porch and started screaming at me. That's been our most civil conversation to date.
Well I got the surprise of my life this morning when I was out at 6:45a.m. feeding the chickens. Here's a short version. As I'm just finishing up I turn to grab my wagon and I see a shadow rounding the big coop. Thought my DH came out for something. WRONG! It was my neighbor lady and she came unglued on me, crying, pleading & all, telling me she is a nervous wreck and is going to have a heart attack over my roosters crowing.(No she is not elderly she is a middle aged 50 something fruit loop and seems quite healthy.) She proceeds to tell me that she is at her wits end. She said she doesn't know of anyone who would like his crowing except for me. I said "my children enjoy it as well." She said she can't take it anymore, she's at her wits end and I need to do something.( Get rid of them? Ah NO ) I apologized that he annoys her but I told her that I like the crowing, it's his form of communication and that is what roosters do....dogs bark, cows moo. As I stood there quietly waiting for a reply she continued to ramble on a bunch of BS which lead to her saying that I'm not going to listen to anyone, it's no use in talking to me, that I'm gonna do what I want to, blah, blah, blah, blah. I politely told her that it's my right and perfectly legal for me to have a rooster & chickens if I choose and I choose to have them! She then stomped off across the yard and as she's stomping away yells to me that if I don't do something she's gonna shoot him, that I'm gonna come home and find him dead because I drove her to it! Trying really hard to restrain my mouth I then told her that maybe she should take a pill or two .I didn't say another word, just turned my back and continued to finish up. I know my rights and what's legal and not for my location and zoning. I live in an area that is zoned AG, I have acreage and I'm with in my MRTF rights. Needless to say, I called our township zoning guy who I know on a personal basis. Mind you, I double checked all the rules before getting chickens so I knew what his reply was gonna be but did it to tell him of the threat and just to be 100% sure. Yup, just as he told me before I'm perfectly fine.

Sooo.....if she approaches me again I'm just gonna tell her nicely that I'm within my rights and perfectly legal and that all I can do help her is pray for her. Why do I have to have a fruit loop for a neighbor!!!! The lord is testing me on how nice I can be about the whole thing I guess! I'd really like to tell her to go fly a kite!

Chicken Stock Ideas: I like them all and would be very willing to my share of the work. I also like the suggestion of having 2...one early Summer & one in the Fall. We could have the one in a southern location and one in a northern location as some folks suggested! Makes for fair travels for everyone.

. . . She came out on her front porch and started screaming at me. That's been our most civil conversation to date.

We have pretty good neighbours. The last place we lived though, we had awful neighbours. We lived on a postage sized lot. When they weren't screaming at each other, the dogs were all howling. One day, while they were away, their roof caught on fire and half the house burned down. I heard it was an electrical short in the garage.

The house we lived in before that, was on a slightly larger lot. But noise travels easily without much of a barrier. One day the southerly neighbour's roof caught on fire. I heard it was faulty Christmas lights.

That same year, slightly uphill, north of us, our neighbour's roof caught on fire. I can't say I remember how, but something to do with oily rags in the garage.

And now we are here! Last year, a storm took out one of our trees and took out the roof, bedroom and living room of our neighbour's house.

If I wasn't married to him, I don't think I'd like to be my husband's neighbour; such bad luck being next door to him.

OMG! And the most common factor in all that was you guys... I do not want to be your neighbour. LOL

My eldest sis is going to be in Bremerton? WA for a few weeks in July. Visiting some friends they made when they lived in Seattle. I will tell them to steer clear of your place. HEHE

me either... then we'd have 2.... of those......yeah! LOL! and how funny would that look! :D
U guys crack me up! Hey Silly the new bunnies name is Trixie. It was gonna be Silly Bunny but then we thought trix were for kids and then it wnet to trixie. Whoa!

The liability issue is someting to think about since, like Keyt pointed out, the flyers were (maybe) meant to be posted at local places? If it were just BYC members only I'd have zero problem having a family reunion but don't quote me on that. I never ran that by the boss

A more northerly located CS would be something that I could actually attempt to attend! Township parks or halls are usually cheap to reserve (at least in my area). Grayling township has a Nature Park that could be an option......playground, pavillion, picnic tables, etc.

The "bee guy" came by today. He seemed happy with our location, and the amount of purple thistle (and sumac) that grows un-checked on half of our property. I think he may be by to drop off hives tomorrow. AND, he gave us a 2.5lb jar of raw honey. YUM.

Had to empty, scrub, dry, and refill the pool today. We really need to make/buy some sort of cover for it to keep the bugs out, and hopefully check the growth of alge. It was so disgusting......white slime city.

Oh, quick egg-hatching questions. If I happen to have a hen go broody on me, and this happened in the winter and I wanted to hatch some eggs, would it be advisable to buy some (thinking of the very cold temps) or wait until spring? What about hatching eggs in the fall? Good idea? Baaaad idea?

I agree. I'm just saying I had a guy buy a chick from me that had never heard of BYC before. He pointed at the sign and asked me what it was all about. I almost didn't sell to him but he asked me if they were cochin (which the one he had was) so I figured he knew something. I was just making a statement that if no one agrees the flyer should be posted in local graineries then it shouldn't have said that. I wasn't being rude about it.
